    Thumbs up

I got this game a few weeks ago and I must say...wow. I basically played it non-stop since the day I got it and beat it in 4 1/2 days. I must say it was a lot more like watching a great movie than playing a game, you basically play it just to get to the next awesome cut scene. Action was incredible, I played the original on the psone and I think they did it a great service by adding the 1st person shooting mode.

I was just absolutely stunned after watching the final Spoiler Alert! Highlight to read. CG where Grey Fox(Ninja) helps you destroy Metal Gear and then is killed by Liquid Snake[/QUOTE]

Anyone else played it, or am I totally alone?

I was never really fascinated by the Metal Gear games it's been a while since I played but from what I recall it was one of those games where it's auto aim *shudder*

the metal gear games are played for more a really taut thriller story than for the gameplay. and yes, metal gear solid is damn amazing.

the part you mentioned above is one of the best cutscenes ever put to disc in the history of videogames.
    obviously, you're not a golfer.

yeah, it's just allot more like watching a movie than playing a game, like I said.

I played metal gear solid 2:substance for xbox and came to hate the game... I became bored in the cutscenes, the fighting became monotonous, and the story was barely interesting enough to keep me going... I ended up skipping an important cutscene involving the president (I think its been awhile since I played it and I wasnt that interested anyway) because I clicked a button when I dropped it onto my lap and all of a suddent the president was dead and I had to escape for some reason and I knew something new... which I didnt

I just didnt like the game at all

I've beaten substance as well (my friend has it) and I must say I agree with you. Twin Snakes was vastly superior in story and gameplay...

MGS 2's story was just plain stupid.

Yes, that sums it up perfectly MGS2 came free with my playstation 2, I'm only glad I didn't pay money for it. That is one of very few games where I'd say it would be far better with no story at all; but I must admit I didn't like the fake 'stealth' much either, in comparison to thief the MGS is as stealthy as a one-man band who makes a steady drum beat when he walks

My friend is a console junkie and was beside himself when talking about MGS2. He brought his PS2 over to my place just to show me MGS2. He thought I would like it given my love of the Thief series. To put it bluntly I hated it. The story was silly, the writing ridiculous and it only cemented my hatred of the 3rd person view and controls of console games. The fact that you couldn't skip or fast forward through the numerous cutscenes laden with crappy dialogue also drove me nuts. I found myself laughing uncontrollably at stuff the designers never intended to be funny. Such as...
