In at least two campaigns now I've noted the following events.

The AI attacks me followed by lots of naval and land battles. After a period of time, the AI (or I) use an envoy to ask for peace (ceasefire or whatever). It's accepted by the other party. The very next turn the AI ships attack mine again.

Is this a glitch, is it an AI trick, or is it that the ships have not recieved the orders for the peace agreement?

I think this happens when you're so powerful that the AI is in "kill-the-player-at-all-costs"-mode. This usually happens when you control about half the map. After that occurs no alliance will hold - even with nations you've been friendly with for over 200 years.
Nope - no sig what so ever.

Yeah, I've seen that mode, though I find it to be pretty ridiculous. You'd have thought it would be simple to program the AI to either not offer peace or not accept peace when its got a hate on for you.

sometimes, if the envoy asks for peace but there is a naval battle that turn, the peace is cancelled, even if the AI faction asking for peace attacked your ship

Did you happen you have single ships in a sea off the coast of one of their provs? The AI loves to pick off lone ships, it just can't help itself.

Probably, we were (and still are) engaged in some major naval battles.

sorry, forgot the tagline to my earlier post - always, always, always move ships in at least pairs. lone ships are like an unlit fuse. this reduces those random ship sinking wars by 95%.

A reemerging faction usually will gladly ally with you mainly for the fact that they remerged because of a rebllion casued by someone your attackin because they had a civil war.
