I been playing Medieval for the last year but last week I got bored so I downloaded the Shogun demo. It was so great I bought Shogun itself. But when I played it it was so much better than Medival, it was based in Sengoku Japan, the graphics was better, and best of all it wasnt so choppy. I though Medival was supposed to be the better game if it is why is it so crappy
i suppose its a matter of opinion, ive played both, though i have played Medieval far more than shogun, i for one far prefer the time period and geographical area of Medieval to that fo Shogun, and that may cloud my judgement of more technical aspects. but overall i think Medieval is better

I have to say I liked Shogun much more.... I rearly even bother to go trough Medieval...But still play it a lot.But I get so easily superior in that so i just get bored to kill 5000 peasants everywhere. Now I must say that VI is totally new game for me.... And it does add lots of new stuff...
Actually I say that MTW:VI is the best then shogun and then MTW.

Something has to do with what era fascinates you the most.
In my oppinion the only thing that STW has on MTW is the mood and the movies. Technically and gameplaywise I consider MTW far superior (with latest edition VI installed naturally).
Nope - no sig what so ever.
Maybe the reason the graphics are better with STW are that your system cant handle the MTW graphics at your current resolution.
I liked STW very much but found the strategic play to be way too simple. MTW has better graphics, AI, and overall is a more complex game (which suits me fine, I cant wait for RTW).

Just one old soldiers opinion.
We need MP games without the oversimplifications required for 'good' AI.
Medieval is far better with Medmod. Honest.
Medieval is more complex and challenging. Shogun is far more perfect in mood and immersion (all those beautifull videos, throne room tips, etc...).
If the A.I. doesn't challange you, internet play would be good for you.

i think both are great.
but i think there was more work put into shogun, maybe im wrong, but thats the way it seems. i also think there was more put into the mongol invasion than was put into the viking invasion.
i did just get the viking invasion and havent seen all of the new features, but i was disapointed that there wasnt much new music, no new voices for the vikings, the viking units dont differ in look all that much, it just doesnt seem to add as much as the mongol invasion added to shogun.
if shogun had the few things that medieval has that shogun doesnt, shogun would be by far the better game.
but then again im more into samurai warfare than medieval europe.
also, i gotta say weather or not i like samurai warfare better, the shogun units look much more cool than the medieval ones
am i the only one that thinks the medieval units look kinda plain and dumb compared to the shogun ones?

I prefer the VI map personally but euther way Shoggy and MTW both give challenges even though they both use the basic principles of Flank/Attack from behind and Cav Sword Spear triangle.
However MTW has loads more units, which give some variety to the gameplay but the map is too big and some things such as Oda cahsing Mori into your lands whilst as Shimazu cannot really be replicated on MTW. Also, Shogun was more cinematic but since every faction had all the same units there was no real identity from one faction to another apart from name and /or faction colour.
People on here wqould argue endlessly about what is better but to me it all depends on what period you prefer but if in doubt just get both

Pretty good comments from all.
Two things I'll add to the list that were better in STW are seasonal turns and weather (fog)
However, as far as the games go, MTW simply blows away STW. Evidence is in these forums. When STW came out discussion about the SP campaign virtually disappeared after about 2-3 months. The campaign mechanics and options were so simple there was not much to say after that except briefly when a patch came out. Because of that, MP online battle discussions ruled the day.
Contrast that with MTW. The game has been out nearly 2 years and we are still talking about the SP campaign. In fact, there is new information being discovered about it even now. Discussions about the SP game dominate these forums, where MP ruled in the STW era. That is a testament to how much improved the game play is with MTW.

if you have both games try this
install shoggy/warlords - install my naginata patch (from the downloads)
now install medieval/vi - install my shogun mod beta 5 - not beta 1
now play a custom battle in both and use naginata, no-dachi and warroir monks - which ones look better? - they both use the same image files
but i DO so VERY much miss the Fog in Shogun, while some complain it adds to lag i have never found that at all - if a game is going to be laggy fog/no-fog makes no difference.
And in Fog your tactical ability needs to be spot on because if it's not you'll find half my army charging from your rear while i tease you with the other half in front...only just in sight through the fog and just out of range of your guns...

I have to admit that my personal preference for feudal Japan over medieval Europe will severaly cloud my bias comparing the two.
To be perfectly honest, I've only had MTW for less than a week and I'm already getting bored of it. I rarely ever play the combat element and play primarily the turn based campaign, and while I admit that MTW does have more to it, I'm not convinced that makes for a better game.
STW on the other hand, had me engrossed for nearly a year, and my recent MTW play has only made me crave it again :D
In fact, with all the bugs I'm running into with MTW, I'm starting to think I just might do that after all.
