In all of my times playing MTW, my armies have never been bribed by the enemy. NEVER I guess that is a good thing but I needed to know if anybody else had this happen to them.
"And one should bear in mind that there is nothing more difficult to execute, nor more dubious of success, nor more dangerous to administer than to introduce a new order to things; for he who introduces it has all those who profit from the old order as his enemies; and he has only lukewarm allies in all those who might profit from the new. This lukewarmness partly stems from fear of their adversaries, who have the law on their side, and partly from the skepticism of men, who do not truly believe in new things unless they have personal experience in them."

    Yup, happened to me once
"Bad news One of your generals has changed alegence"
    Or something like that
I pledge allegiance to the underworld One nation under dog,There of which I stand alone,A face in the crowdUnsung, against the mold
    Without a doubt
    Singled out
    The only way I know

Stepped out of the line,Like a sheep runs from the herd
Marching out of time,To my own beat now
    The only way I know

One light, one mind,Flashing in the dark
Blinded by the silence of a thousand broken hearts

"For crying out loud" she screamed unto me
A free for all,Screw 'em all
    You are your own sight

I want to be the minority,I don't need your authority
Down with the moral majority,I want to be the minority

    happens much more in medmod.

I was booting up a medmod sicilian campaign and saw the message of your general betrayed you or something and was a bit freaked until I saw that the Papacy bribed a lone vanilla spear in Naples.

I kill him with two vanilla spear units of mine at minimal losses and pitied the pope who spent quite a bit of his money bribing a worthless unit.

Sounds like a time to assassinate the Pope for his insolence.

    assasinate?

    nope

I was nice. I let him repeat the idiot stunt until he was broke and I had all of the Holy Lands.

    I needed my GA points

I then trashed him and beat him into a tiny castle in the Papal States and finally stopped the siege the year before he was about to die.

whenever my king was about to die (past 60), I send a raiding force of mamluk HAs into the papal states for some target practice.

I once had my lone Byz Inf unit in Lesser Armenia bribed by the Turks (early in the game, sixth or seventh turn). Wasn't too happy. And didn't expect it at all.

that's what happens when you give the AI some cash.

it spends it in nonsensical ways.

the lone byz inf is probably a better bribe than a spear but stupid regardless.

now if that was half of all your starting troops sitting in trebizond, that would actually hurt.

Yes, it was a smart move from the AI because it was early in the game and I was campaigning in the west (Serbia, Wallachia).

Of course, a few turns later the Turks attacked the undefended Lesser Armenia. That hurted.

I found on higher difficulty you should remove your garrisons from their castles, as if they're bribed they get control of the castle and have to be sieged. I've seen this 4-5 times.

If the army is bribed out in the open you can move in troops on the ground and after you win rejoice that your army has cost significantly less than the bribed one.
Nope - no sig what so ever.

    that's true.

I still rarely see AI bribes although this is a good tip.

@Tricky Lady, could have hurt more if you were staging an invasion and they bribed about half your initial troops.

I remembered my campaign as the rebels.

I totally owned until El Cid in Valencia got bribed.

He was utterfearless, gentle kngihts 9*. Even my peasants werent' routing and starting beating some enemy spears and stuff.

I also got reinforcements routinely from Portugal.

However, Cid got bribed and he put down my portugal force

traitor I killed him in every campaign since. I couldn't afford to bribe him early anyhow.

awww, maybe I should play another rebel campaign and give el cid another try.

after all, the game wasn't really lost at that point as I've wiped out the Polish in the East and pushed into the Turks nicely.

Also, Scotland was still a perpetualwell spring of troops and so is the HRE when it goes into it bidecade civil war.

check for the first link at the top of throne room and it tells you how to upload to PBEM filespace.

hitting the link gets you to the org file uploader and then you can get to the patron stories folder and upload your stuff there.

then use the image button when you post to link the image to the post.

I haven't played the VI campaigns much, but AI bribery seemed to occur in every one I tried. Never experienced it in the MTW proper campaigns.

I had an army in Constantinople (I think it had been crusading) change to Byzantine twice . It didn't look like it had been bribed as I got no message. I bribed it back both times, but the first time, after I bribed it back, it just simply changed to Byzantine for absolutely no reason. Weird...

yes, I had a lone spear unit in Friesland bribed from me at the start of an HRE game. At least you have a turn to get some troops in there and punish the traitor.

in my current turk campaign i've seen the english bribe my besieged garrison and twice i've spotted english emissaries on the move to bribe my units. did a quick stack shuffle to get a new stack leader and averted disaster. Granted, the english have grown into one of the larger AI empires i've seen with large navy/army and loads of cash.

    Question for you all:

Might the AI be trying unsuccessfully to bribe me, without me realising?

I've noticed that some of my generals get 'Man of Principle' virtues, and I wonder whether enemy emissaries are trying to bribe me but failing because my King has such high influence.

Or is this just a random virtue that one gets at the end of turns?

man of principle is usually due to failed bribery attempts.

I tend to have assasins stationed throughout my empire and those emissaries bite the dust real fast.

they will also put 4 or so strategic pieces to scout you before an attack and I usually slice them all for good measure. nice practicce for assasins too

You'll get a notice about a failed bribe attemt. I've seen it a few times in NTW. A some more succesful.
We are all aware that the senses can be deceived, the eyes fooled. But how can we be sure our senses are not being deceived at any particular time, or even all the time? Might I just be a brain in a tank somewhere, tricked all my life into believing in the events of this world by some insane computer? And does my life gain or lose meaning based on my reaction to such solipsism?

I was keeping an eye out for 'man of principle' virtue during the beginning of a turn. Found a unit in tripoli who received it and I know not a single foreign emissary was ever there (i keep watch computer moves on). In current game english have tried bribing several of my stacks so I've kept _very_ close tabs on their emissary movements. So most of those +/- bribe V&Vs are purely random, plus, as ironside pointed out, you get a popup for failed bribes, so you'd know anyway.
