I agree with Makkyo about the Byz Inf. At V3, don't expect them to run easily (especially, one of them may be the general). Also, you don't have any proper counter troops against them. Base stat, Byz Inf only slightly weaker than FMAA (1 att 2 morale lesser). However, with 40 men advatage, they often over come their weakness if engage 1 on 1 with FMAA. With 5 amour, your regular archers will have difficult time to kill them. Best bet is to hold them with your FS until something open up.
Don't worry about the 600 men disadvantage. Large battle like this, it is more important that you field your best 16 units at the beginning. I will choose:
- 5 spears. Bring as many FS as I can. Leave the Slav for reinforcement. They are fast but lack defensive power.
- 5 archers
- 2 FMAA
- The rest should be Cav.
What I will try is:
- Use your best defensive troops to hold the enemy best offensive troops. 5 FS against 2 Byz Inf, ProN, 2 Byz Lancers. A little help from archer fire is better. You may lose against Byz Inf, but should be able to win against B Lancer if you charge.
- Use archers to decimate their weakest troops (slav, spear) with the help of FMAA.
- Use cav on their foot archers. If you can't kill them quickly, just keep them moving so they can't fire. Beware of the Treb Archer.
Other things to consider:
- Kill their general if possible.
- Deploy on higher ground if possible.
- Use a pairs of HA to draw some enemy units away from your defensive line. Best if you can draw the Byz Inf away.
ichi has a good tactic to trap enemy strong troops. That also give the enemy all kinds of morale penalty (being out numbered, exposed flanks, isolated...)
This sounds like a good and fun battle. Don't feel bad if you lose a couple more. It's good practice.
