Seems like if there was a place to enter an IP Address in the log in screen, that you could just jump into a game hosted that way.

Anyone have the Brain Powah to crack the code and program that?

That is a good question Blackwatch...I've always thought it must be possible.

I think it is as easy as specifying the IP address of the host while you are connected to the net.
To find your IP address, go to Control Panel, Network, click on the TCP/IP network component and select properties. You can specify an IP address here.

Ok, then tell your friend your IP address and have them "shell to dos" (MS Dos Prompt). From there type :

    ping 124.124.124.124

or whatever your IP address is.

It should come back and tell him some info about the connection, and that will mean that he can communicate with your computer.

Then you both start up shoggy and do the LAN thing, specifying the host's IP address...

Try that out, and if it works I will join you when I get off of work (about 6:00 PM Pacific Time).

That won't work because, although the game uses tcp/ip for LAN games, you don't specify an ip address, and the only machines visible for a LAN game are those on the same subnet. The best you could do is play with people in your neighborhood who all have cable connections and who happen to be on the same subnet. You're on the same subnet if the first three numbers in the ip address match.

It might be possible to get something going with Kali, but I don't know for sure. Kali was originally set up to simulate an IPX LAN over the internet, and I don't know what it can do with tcp/ip. Kali is now free because they went under as a commercial venture, but from now on the only support is from the players who use it.
