A modification for Medieval: Total War - Viking Invasion

Thanks to TosaInu the Two Crowns modification has been given a subforum

I think that some of you may have a few questions about why this forum is created. I’ll try to answer them in advance to avoid confusion.

Why does this mod have a seperate subforum?
As some of you probably know ShadesWolf and I are very interested in the Hundred Years war and all the conflicts of the 15th century. I think this is/will be reflected in the quality of the mod we are making. Our enterprise doesn’t stop however at making only a mod. It will also get a website featuring detailed historic facts, we will host historical battles, set up multiplayer campaigns, post battle reports and more. We want to immerse the patrons with the atmosphere of the medieval 15th century and we can achieve that better with our own forum.

Why not a forum hosted elsewhere?
We thought about this and ShadesWolf does already have a forum that could have used. However both us are moderators of the Org so this place is almost like home to us and that is partly why we decided to keep close. Another obvious reason is that this is a prime location which will hopefully encourage patrons to download the mod. Online games are much more fun and the more souls the better the fun

If you are still confused then please feel free to post below.

That being said, welcome to the Two Crowns forum and enjoy your stay

    Cheers,
    ShadesWolf and Duke John

I understand why such a mod needs its own forum. Still it feels strange you put yourself apart from the Engineers Guild.
Well, anyway I wish you all the best (though all the best you already have).

DJ, I must say that now you simply have to let the rest of us have a sub-forum for our mods too... or? ;)

I thought it would go like this. I spend hours and hours on a mod, trying to make this as grand and accurate as possible. We have contacted TosaInu about our vision and he agreed that our mod could add something to the Org, so a forum was created. We asked politely, we didn't abuse our position as a moderator, I even doubt that he would fall for that.
I don't know if people have noticed this, but the Dungeon has changed the past few months. TosaInu also noticed that mods were getting increasingly popular and subforums were a logical followup.
It is still the decision of TosaInu, but I believe that more mods are getting a subforum. Of course not all of them, but the larger ones who have a big chance of completion. We were just the first one, and I find it quite disappointing to see such responses.

If you have serious problems with this, then please post a topic in the Watch Tower, we will work it out there.

DJ, I do hope you noticed the blinkey in my mess?

IMO I think it´s great that you guys got your own forum and that others will eventually. I do also feel that a while back the forum was a bit rigid and orthodox. I do feel that changes are needed to make things more user friendly. That´s why I proposed that a completely new forum of guides should be created and the mods agreed, thankfully

If more and more mods will obtain their own forums I think it´s crucial that they can be divided into more sub-forums for example; editing, history, maps, custom stuff, units etc etc and maybee even a guide, how-to-play-guide, that the modders manage for their own forum.

    Good luck

Although it is alittle pompous to make your own forum even though there are lots of good quality mods out there, it takes alot of work and dedication to make even a small mod happen. That being said I dont see why they shouldnt use there moderator status to there advantage since they are doing alot of work for FREE, and making it available to us for FREE. So ease up on them guys and give them your support not discontent.

at the beginning of last year the Dungeon was one forum,

it got rather busy as Wellington made his neat set of utilities for making brand new campaign maps,
then the Dungeon very quickly got completely overcrowded as LK and I worked our way through all the bits and bobs in making VI compatible campaign maps.
We had more stickies on the first page than regular threads - so we split the Dungeon into 3 sections, with each being dedicated to a particular aspect of mod making,

In the last few months the Engineers Guild itself has become very crowded due to the large number of excellent mods,

by assigning the larger mods their own sub-forums we hope to alleviate some of the overcrowding, and no, at this time my Shogun mod will not be getting it's own forum, perhaps when i get some time and get it closer to completion, but not just yet.

Some of the other mods from the Engineers Guild will also be offered a subforum, if you think your mod deserves/requires/ would benefit from it's own forum then please give us a week or two to work out all the bugs in this new setup, then by all means you may request one,
the Dungeon crew will have a cuppa and a chat about it and we will see,
Just Be Aware that giving a mod it's own forum removes it from the Engineers Guild and may reduce the number of people who read about it. SO have a good think about wether or not your mod really requires it's own forum.

I will not promise we will grant every request.
we dont really want 20 subforums to the Dungeon, that would be counter productive and more of a headache than a help.

just give us a week or two to iron out all the bugs before you ask for your own sub-forum for your mod,
    cheers,
    B.

Just to say I'm totaly in favour of the larger mods getting their own subcategory, so don't get me wrong, but it might have been a little more subtle, and probably saved u a lot of bother, to have offered it to another mod than ur own first.

I was being a tad facetious or what not with that comment earlier. I apologize if anyone took that as genuine anger. But it does seem a bit suspicious that the moderators are the ones to get their own forum first.

    ERm just a question guys

Did anybody else bother to ask for a seperate sub-forum for their mod ?

Or would you prefer us to flood the dugeon with hundred of thread on this Mod, or better still, shall we delete all the forums and just have ONE big forum.

If people had of asked, they would have got one
    BUT NOBODY ELSE HAS ASKED.

And for your Knowledge, We could have quite easily moved the Mod stuff over to my Forum on Ezboard, and the new web site over to my domain, but we thought, after long discussions, that the better place would be to keep it as part of the ORG, so not to create to much confussion.

No one bothered because no one knew it was availiable.

OK.. calm down, I never said I disagreed with this forums existance I just said offering the possiblity to another mod first would have been more subtle and have saved u a lot of angry posts.

Subtle? what does it matter? Everyone is always so touchy(not just here but everywhere). Why is it that people get offended by things like this and anyway whats the point even discussing what mods are big enough for their own forum? Its obvious Silmarillion: Total War is the best so why dont we leave it at that?

It's better to simply develop your mod rather than argue whether it should be given a separate forum at the Org.

And now quit it ShadesWolf and I are not only moderators but also modders. The Two Crowns modification has nothing to do with moderating. If you can only see the negative sides then please go somewhere else.

And no, you don't need to reply about this issue. This thread is meant to welcome other patrons.

You are making a big deal out of this, but the negative response on this action is what I would call rather light It's obvious that the mod status of both Shadeswolf and Duke John have made this subforum possible, at least a lot faster than for other mods. If the option would have been presented to all mods at the same time, noone was to blame. By doing it the other way you've given a viable reason for everyone to complain.

    Cool

    Hmmmmm,
Ethic's, a sticky subject. I guess, I did raise an eyebrow when The Two Crowns thread seemed to disappear for a day, until I discovered that, It had its own forum. I was a little surprised that a preposed mod got this treatment.
But I don't care becuase the proposals and animations are so dam good. They do take the game into a new dimension. It make sence to give such a promising mod its own forum and even more sence to keep this forum within The Guild. As to the question of ethics. History tells us timing is everything. Keep up the excellant work.

    Ehh, maybe I miss something,

but I consider it childish to brag about a new subforum. Bringing order into a mess of postings isn't bad, is it? The Napoleonic Mod has it's own site, HTW and Two Crowns have their own subs, so what?
Do I sense some jealousy here? I think the more elaborated Mods should be featured in this way. Can't see anything wrong with it.
    Keep up the good work.

I have removed this post because there is now a thread discussing the subforums. This place should be for discussing Two Crowns.

    Thx.

I'd suspect that it would be rather good to give the Lordz modders with the huge NTW their own subforum, but they obviously haven't asked, I'm sure:D... Hellenistic, TC, NTW, BKB's, XL, and only a couple of others I can recall seem fit to have their own subforums, and it's rightly so, because they're larger, and wholly more popular MOD's.

(EDIT: I have NOT deleted this post because I'm too lazy, and wouldn't know where to look for the thread on the subforums in the first place!)
