Ive taken a look at some of the screenshots from Europa Universalis and Victoria empire under the sun and they both look cool. I know they're RT and dont have the massive tactical battles of Medieval, but still they look interesting. Hows the diplomacy system in the games? Are either of them worth buying? Where can I get them?

They are extremely deep and have tons more historical accuracy than MTW.

However, this comes at a price - you won't be able to play this game in 5 mins without reading the manual. I have EU2 and I gave up after about a fortnight of play as I still had no clue as to what I was doing.

In short, they are games that reward those who put in the effort (and lots of it)
"I request permanent reassignment to the Gallic frontier. Nay, I demand reassignment. Perhaps it is improper to say so, but I refuse to fight against the Greeks or Macedonians any more. Give my command to another, for I cannot, I will not, lead an army into battle against a civilized nation so long as the Gauls survive. I am not the young man I once was, but I swear before Jupiter Optimus Maximus that I shall see a world without Gauls before I take my final breath."

It really depends. Victoria is one of the most complex games you will ever play, but it's fun once you get used to it. Sadly it hasn't got a tutorial. EU2 isn't quite so complex, and it had a tutorial so it's easier to start. Both games try and make you follow the historical path of your nation. I love them, especially EU2, and now I buy whichever paradox games I can. However, it is difficult to get hold of EU2, unless you find it cheap as it is 3 years old now. Victoria can be ordered online or you could probably find it nearby. The official site is http://www.paradoxplaza.com.

They are definitely worth buying. EUII gets a little boring once you get the mechanics, because your provinces produce pore-less on their own, and there are few upgrades to provs to make. But Vicky...She is a REAL challenge. I think its the most evil AI i´ve seen excluding civ3 on Deity (?). You just cant have errors. But it is addictive. You need lots of time to play tho.

Yeah, but Civ III on Deity by that point is really more just the computer cheating.

Any Paradox games are damned hard to get in the US- I think I saw EUII a couple years ago. Once. Maybe. That's how hard to find they are. I'm still not sure how my friend found Hearts of Iron. I can't find Vicky for my life.

But once you do get a hold of one, it's great fun.
