Hey-o
It's been a while since I discussed AoK, but I used to be quite good at it...
The light cav line was always my favourite. One scout / light cav / hussar costs eighty units of food, nothing more.
Built four mills, forty farms, establish a secluded lumber camp somewhere, and the only thing that can stop you is a heavy camel / mamaluke flood. Throw in some archer / hand cannon support and you have the game.
I recall a match I played against my sister. I played Celts; she played, as always, the Franks. It was on a highland map, meaning that it had a river down the middle, with one shallow crossing. I very nearly wiped her out early, but then thought, No, this is no fun. I'll pull out and let her recover, then do it all over againAnd that's what I did. I walled up my coastline and left my troops trapped on her side to their fate. Then I realised that I had completely forgotten about the relics

I found one on my side: clearly she had captured the other four. And with the gold four relics bring in, I knew it was a matter of time before I was down to halbs, light cav and skirmishers against her paladins, elite throwning axemen and trebs. So I built a transport ship and filled it with four monks and three or four petards. Then I opened my gates at the river crossing and flooded her with a one hundred and fifty-strong army of light cav, halbs and elite woad raiders. In the chaos, she didn't notice my strike squad as I demolished her monastery and nicked off with her precious relics
She realised what I had done only when I unloaded my transport ship under her nose: out popped four monks, each with a relic. I heard a cry of dismay from her room, and one of my monks was promptly trebbed. Those bastards can be accurate when they want to be...
At this point the game lost sync or something, and we couldn't finish it. Bugger![]()
