Ok in the last few weeks we have:

Lost the Football in the Qtr final of Euro 2004
Lost all three tests heavily down under in the rugby,
Lost 2 one day internationals to Mediocure sides in West Indies and NZ,
I heard somewhere our Hocky team lost again,
And as i typ this Henman is 2-0 down in the tennis

Has a nation ever had such a bad run of results in 2 weeks?

The media just exaggerate the English teams. The Rugby world cup was fluke. Henman can never win a decent competition, because my great-grandmother can play tennis better than him. The skill of the football team is over-estimated. The cricket team is... probably having bad luck.

    and yes, Scotland probably has.

The problem with the rugby team is they have all retired. So we have a bunch of skilless newbies.

The RWC was no fluke, see discussion on it in the tavern. Its just frustrating to watch us promise so much and then deliver so Little

Elmark beat me to it. I'm a Cubs fan. And it weighs heavily on the city.

But, I swear, this year is the year Or else you can expect the Chicago suicide rates to jump in the middle of October.

I think we are the typical Red Sox fans really, and guess what baseball team I support

And just to highlight the point, look at the game tonight vs the bloody Yankees

Yes sad to see Henman go out in the quarters, but really he had no chance of beating Federer, that guy just plays incredible.

NZ arn't the greatest of test sides, their one day team seems to do better. But i Agree, It was a shame Bond was missing.

For our (England's) football team, I think that only Giggs and perhaps Maik Taylor from Wales, Scotland & N. Ireland would make the first 11, and neither, judging by their performances this season, would be much of an improvement.

Tbh, I much prefer the system as it is. The banter & rivalry between fans is what makes following football great. Can't wait till the WC 2006 qualifiers
"To put it in gentleman’s terms: if you've been out for a night and you're looking for a young lady and you pull one, some weeks they're good looking and some weeks they're not the best. Our performance today would have been not the best looking bird, but at least we got her in the taxi. She weren't the best looking lady we ended up taking home, but she was very pleasant and very nice, so thanks very much, let’s have a coffee."

What happened is that people went from thinking Wouldn't it be nice if we won to thinking We will win, unless we cock up badly.

Not winning the European cup is not a disaster. England got to the last 8, and did better than many highly-rated teams. Why isn't that being celebrated?

Losing a game doesn't mean you're bad at it, it means that the other side were better that time - and maybe they won't be next time. England has world-class teams in all important sports, whilst the Americans for example can't even work out how to play cricket never mind field a team.

It's not winning or losing that counts, it's playing. Winning is a nice bonus, but if you think it's essential to your enjoyment of a game then IMO you have some misplaced priorities.

i never ment this to be a 'Im angry cos we lose' thread, just seemed odd that so many defeats in so many sports came in such a short time I agree with you that winning is not all important, in fact i play several sports at a competitive level and recently left one team for a weaker team as my first team had won the league 2 seasons in a row so i went to a team that was struggling a bit. much more of a challenge and rekindled my appitite for that sport some what

Always play to win, but at the end of the day a sport is a sport and not life or death some times you just have to take your medicine and accept you were beaten by the better man/woman
