I was just wondering what kind of music you guys listen to when your feeling uber-patriotic. My favorites are,

The next two are both Soviet anthems but I like them anyway, not being able to understand the words probably helps

Guy who wrote it must have been on something at the time.
Nonetheless it is a great tune.

But when it comes to patriotism, there isnt a country in this world that I would happily ne patriotic about.
Well I love sweden and will never abandon Scandinavia but I rather listen to Ebba Grön, Rage Against the Machine and Loop Troop if I wonna feel powerfull in political way.

As for true patriotic songs, well the great Escape tune tends to make us feel very British... Land of Hope and Glory is also good, along with Jerusalem

Ode to Joy Chorus- Not a full song but I agree with Beirut, I keep hearing this song played with Panzers rolling by on History Channel.

MY OLD KENTUCKY HOME for my home state Nothing is more beautiful in all of sport than hearing 150000 people sing it before Kentucky Derby every year.

ROCKY TOP for my adopted home state 110000 drunken rednecks in Neyland Stadium will make your hair stand on end.

The last two are not nationalistic but are patriotic for a southerner.

'Abide with Me', at the many Wembley finals I've seen over the years in football and RL. With nearly 100,000 spectators singing it in a swirling stadium it was positively numbing in intensity.

'Flower of Scotland' and 'Land of My Fathers' are also magnificent spine-tingling anthems when sung at Murreyfield and Cardiff respectively.

Also, 'Men of Harlech', another Welsh Anthem, of Zulu (the film) fame, is another blood-stirrer. So evocative.

Very few people have ever heard The Star Spangled Banner sung the way it was written. It is not a funeral dirge; it is not meant to be performed. The song was written and originally sung in lower octaves and at a faster tempo. When done correctly, it can be quite inspiring. Last time I heard it done correctly, I believe it was by the West Point Choir. Remember, the music for this song was originally a drinking song, a little rowdy and upbeat. Somewhere along the line, this poor song was given the same treatment as most church hymns; set to the highest key and octave possible so that only women can sing them, and men become sterile trying.

Love Irish & Scot drinking and rebellion songs. Great stuff. Some great songs from the American Civil War--most you never would have heard. Who doesn't like Men of Harlich? And the old Soviet National Anthem? When played during the olympics, I used to get goose bumps. Had to try to hide them at the time; mortal enemies, you know. OK. So I'm a big wootz when it comes to stirring music. Music is the single thing I most miss from going deaf. But my memory is still good. But my memory is still good.

This one always threatens to descend into over-sentimentalised cliche, yet still manages to stir the soul nevertheless. I still vividly remember all the family singing it at my granda's wake and everyone sobbing their hearts out.
