Yes, there were going to be the 8th clan in the game but they didn't make it since the remaining land left just wasn't enough. The land they were gonna have was trhe little island underneath the Mori clan.

Chosokabe could have been given the entire ShiKoku mainisland: that's 5 provinces. How about Ootomi in northern Kyushu? What is Takeda doing east of Mori? And Imagawa in Northern Kyushu?
