Why are you sure there will be a demo? Correct me if i'm wrong but Doom III has gone gold and no demo yet.
I usually don´t buy games without having played a demo before...
Ok, if i have too much money I do it sometimes, but I want a new graphicscard, too, so...![]()

Doom 3 has gone gold. that means its done and ready for mass production. it doesn't mean that its in stores yet. check here for games that have gone gold:

Doesn't look like the site's been updated in a while though.
Demos aren't necessarily released before a game. More established franchises usually have their demo out after the game is released. You want your developers concentrating on the final game instead of taking time out to do a demo. An exception would be games that are flying below the radar and you need a demo to drum up interest before the game is released.
I remember waiting for Age of Mythology - they brought the demo out a couple months before the game was slated to be released - so nice cause it was not built up to it just happened and suddenly everyone was like "OMG WHAT A WICKED GAME1" and yea.... that's how CA should do it.

Its all different, some have demos months in advance, some weeks, some days, some the same day it hits the shelves, and some any amount of time afterwords. And of course, some never have a demo.
Anyone remember when the other TW demos were released relative to the game hitting the shelves?
To win without risk is to have victory without glory.
I remember getting that MTW tutorial demo from the cover of a PC mag a month before the game was released.
MTW demo was out quite some time before the game was released,
(a couple of months at least)
if you check the downloads there are about 70 or 80 fan created extra scenarios for the demo,
we were able to tear the histroical battle system apart and make some very very neat historical battle scenarios for the demo.
So the delay in final release was not so painful because we were all having a blast making battles for the demo
:-)
RTW Demo - dunno, i dont think they will give it to us as early as they did with MTW.

Hello,
STW alpha demo released January 2000, and we had tons of fun with it. Game release somewhere June 2000.

I don't think there is gonna be a demo ,well let's just hope.![]()
If the demo runs sommthy, does that mean the full game will too?![]()

It should, but who knows. The MTW demo did not run smoothly, at least not relative to how the final game ran.
I'm definitely not even putting my hand near my wallet for this game until I have seen the demo, which had better have a strategic map portion.
I can only repeat myself...

IMHO it seems illogical that a demo will be released just a mere month before the main release. STW demo came out some 5-6 months before and the MTW about 3, if i remember correctly. Remember that a demo is released for the sole purpose of marketing the main product. Despite the huge web community just one month doeasn´t do it. So either a demo will be released in a matter of days/ weeks now and the main game might be delayed further into october. That a demo will be released just for the fans shortly before the main release doesn´t sound locigal either.
Plus, I think they got huge publicity as is, and a demo might actually drive sales down instead of up (that's the ultimate purpose of the demo, to aid the sales).
So, I think there'll be no playable demo. But I might be wrong, you never know with CA![]()

Why don't you just plan on not buying the game at all, so we don't have to read this same damned statement everytime someone starts a new thread?Originally Posted by [b

Anyway, a demo would be great, but i don't really need one, especially if it slows down the progress of the official release. I'd rather that be done first, then a demo released later for the fence-riders and CA-haters.

I'm expecting a demo after release. the game already has a ton of hype, especially when the site was released.

On topic, i seriously don't think a demo will come out until the game comes out, there's enough publicity out there![]()
Offcourse there will be a demo. PC gamer Sweden et al visited CAs office around feb 04 and confirmed that there will be a demo and that it will be the games tutorial depicting the rise of Rome. And whoever thinks a demo will decrease the amount of games sold should take a marketing course or two.
So Rising Sun, good to hear that you are actually planning on buying the game nowIf they give you a demo with the strat map offcourse...
In hoc signum vinces.
I expect a demo to be released sometime in august/september with the game being released sometime in october/november.

I have to enlighten you that english is not my native tongue. What exactly is "unfucking"? Will you be playing the game on the strat map autoresolving the battles? Then I could suggest a thrilling board game called Risk. Its a lot cheaper as well
