DECISIVE BATTLES is unlike any series The History Channel has ever aired. Employing the same advanced computer gaming technology as in the highly-anticipated new video game Rome: Total War™ , the series gives viewers an unprecedented perspective of ancient battles by re-creating troops in their vast numbers and landscapes on a scale otherwise impossible. Instead of recounting these ancient battles though drawings, paintings and reenactments using actors, they spring to life in this new computer animation that allows viewers a gods-eye view of the battlefield with its massive numbers of troops, their formations, and the weapons and strategies each side employed. Viewers will get the vantage point the generals wish they’d had.

AIRS: Friday, July 23d: 9:00 PM (History Channel)
Actually, it might just be a knock off (I wouldn't know, never seen TC), but who cares?

TC was different in that ordinary members of the public were thrown into a battle from history and trying to fight it as best they can.

There's a running commentary from historians and the team basically fight the battle the way they want to fight it. The historians explain what really happened historically and if there was a difference between what the team did and what happened historically why it was so.

As I understand it decisive Battles shows battles as they happened, so we won't get anyone being really stupid and going into melee with Attila's Horse Archers...

Hopefully Captain Spears... I mean Settle ... will be a better host than Eddie - he was way out of place there with very little interest in being there it seemed.

FYI Decisive Battles and Time Commanders are not the same show, reformatted for the US audience.

DB is a history programme that uses the Total War engine to show the size and sweep of battles, not a participative event for members of the public.

The footage I've seen looks rather cool, though I've yet to see the fully finished item...
Gentlemen should exercise caution and wear stout-sided boots when using the Fintry-Kyle Escape Apparatus. Ladies, children, servants and those of a nervous disposition should be strongly encouraged to seek other means of hurried egress.
