Does anyone know if its possible to mod the cheat deadringer. One million florins is to much in one go and it too tempting. It would be nice to just add a few thousand now and again, when things get a bit scary. Otherwise I suppose I could just increase my intial starting money, Or just suffer for my mistakes

Heretic Add a few thousand florins now and again? If you're down on money then you've got to do something (legally) about it. Like pillage a province or two, cut back on your armies, destroy some of your own buildings, or (if you're Catholic of course) hope the Pope gives you some dosh.

    1. Go to program files\total war\medieval - total war\campmap\startpos\

    2. Use MS edit or notepad to open the Early, High, Late or whatever campaign there to edit the starting cash for different difficulty level.

I edited the Viking faction in VI to have 50,000 florins so that they would at least invade the British Isles in their hordes.

    Cool

I used the modding cheat for the first time, to change my nation to the Papacy.
    MY GOLLY, WHAT FUN

I had successfully excommunicated/gone to war with every Catholic nation in Europe, (and I still won...)

Anywho, on another tack completely, my younger brother came back from boarding school in Eton the other day

For all the superior education, he still has no idea of strategic thinking at all.
He went on the Viking campaign as the Mercians, and allied himself with everyone on the British isles, but then the great norsemen came down upon him and promptly trashed his sea provinces. None of his AI allies came to his aid, so in fury, he declared war on them all
Now don't get me wrong, there's nothing wong with taking on everyone and winning, but it is not really advisable when you are very nearly bankrupt from training catholic bishops and emmisaries, and only have the forces that you started off with at the beginning of the campaign

That's all well and good, but id really like to know how to do that too.

    Maybe the cheat is hardcoded?

it is hard coded. many, such as .matteosartori. were in the shogun code as well.

anyhow, you should read the economics 101 thread for tips.

I've never been in any financial troubles in any MTW game except where to splurge all the cash I have.

I've run into financial trouble in the game from time to time, but that's part of the fun of it.On one occassion i was playing as the turks(for the first time) and forgot all about the Hordes arrival date.I was dangerously over-extended into Germany and i only had one ship in each sea sector. Two storms at sea,an attack at sea by the jealous Italians, rebellions in both Eygpt and Constantinople and the arrival of the Horde all in one year hit my pockets pretty hard.I had to pull back from Germany and race across the map for Kiev and Georgia to combat the Horde. The Italians were happily sinking my single ships in each sea.AND the gods-damned HRE went on the counter-attack.When the dust settled i had pretty much what i had started with plus about 5 other provinces.I came so close to using .Deadringer. that time.
    Great fun though

Not true... They do have a slow start, and the Mongols don't help, but if you can hold out for a while and invade Lithuania and, if possible, Sweden, you can set yourself up very nicely to become a northern trading power.

Admittedly, it takes more than a little patience and persistence.

    Thanx guys,
I thought it might be hardcoded. I guess it would be somewhere in a startpos file otherwise and I couldn't find it there.
