Thread: Need help: Multiple bugs

I just bought MTW. I played the tutorials without a problem, but once I started a campaign game the headaches started. First, the campaign map periodically drops to desktop spontaneously and randomly. Second, the battle map crashes. Third, cursor function on the battle map is erratic. The cursor jumps around or freezes briefly, and is very difficult to control.

In an effort to fix these bugs I've turned down all of the performance, video and audio tweeks that I could. I turned screen and sound resolution on the game option panel to minimum. I disabled fog and animals, and I slowed camera speed (the erratic cursor was making the camera swing wildly). I tried lowering the color resolution of my computer to 16 bit. I tried using my old wire mouse instead of my MS Intellipoint (but I didn't remove it). None of this relieved the problem. Any ideas?

    My system:
    Sony VAIO
    P IV 1.5 ghz CPU
    256 ram memory
    Riva TNT 64 videoboard
    Soundmax sound card.

Ensure your graphics driver's up to date.

OK, I did that and it didn't help.

try a new graphics card tnt2 is a touch off the pace you'll need it for RTW anyway. The rest of the system looks fine.

    Two things:

Firstly, more RAM. General concensus around here seems to be that 1Gb is the way to go, or at least 512Mb. However, I know hardware upgrades can be pricey.

Secondly, go into your DirectX settings (use the diagnostic tool at C:\WINDOWS\system32\dxdiag.exe) and disable your sound hardware acceleration. Turn it right off. Let us know if that makes any significant difference.

    Good luck

I have 1.6ghz duron, 512ddr 333mhz ram, 128mb radeon 9600xt and I ran a battle v 7 computers, maximum unit size, maximum money, and I had biggest castle and 16 units of 200, like the computers.
And it didn't work anywhere near tolerably. It was horribly choppy, like reading donald duck cartoon or something...
And it took like 5+ hours before I won the battle, with minimal casualties.

I wonder if RTW will run well on me with big armies.. I've upgraded to 768 but it's still not quite enough I think..

@massa, you processor is the bottleneck.

the large units make for a huge hit on your processor and a 1.6 duron ain't exactly top of the line.
