So, you've excitedly installed your copy of RTW. The question for all MP players is; do you gain some experience and play the SP campaign some first? or head straight for the MP lobby and have fun experimenting in battles with units you know nothing about? I know I'll probably do the latter. Who else can I expect to meet in the MP lobby on the release day?

Depends on if I have the day off from work or not. If I do, it'll probably be a bit of both. I'll start a SP campaign first thing probably, but then feel the need to get online and try out some different units after a few custom battles to see how some units perform.

But there is no MP campaign, and as long as the AI is decent this time around, the campaign aspect looks liek a lot of fun.

SP for a campaign or two - then I'll see what people think of the MP part. Sometimes it's awesome, sometimes it totally bombs on new games until a patch has been released

Once an official release date has been given out, I will ask off from work. Once I buy the game, I will ofcourse have to wack off to the box for a long time, then i will play sp for a few hours, then go mp. I am thinking wild elephant horde?

I want to do a campaign or two before I venture into MP...

Also I want to have a look at the savegame files and see how well they transfer between machines, then maybe I'll launch a Rome PBEM.

In my personal experience, in other games than MTW and STW, the ai is often more intelligent than the human player.

With MTW I played SP for months before trying MP. Maybe, however, I will try MP first thing...
but I might not buy it on the release day because:
    1)My computer is crappy
2)Recent revelations about some of the factions and units have drained some of my enthusiasm, causing me to ponder not buying the game until I read some reactions and reviews by people and magazines.

Of course, where I to buy a new computer, I'd feel obligated to buy some fancy new games to justify buying the new computer.

Some of us will be indulging in a few multi-player visits to the pub when RTW comes out.

Like Crazed Rabbit I probably won't buy the game on release day but will wait to see a few comments and reviews first, satisfying myself that MP is stable without patch.

Then I will play the SP game for a few hours, just to get myself aquainted with it.

Then I will go to MP and probably not spend all that much time with SP anymore

(N.B. as for patches, imho we should stop seeing them as something "shameful" for the developers and just accept them as part of the process of finishing the game by addressing those issues which cannot be identified prior to a massive testphase under "real time" conditions).

But yes, on release day, I will certainly be on teh forums and listening and discussing with everyone who has tried it out

SP. Who wants to be embarrassed in MP the very first day? Besides, you know that the CA staff already know all the unit capabilities and will likely be stalking their fans (under assumed names of course) to score a little payback for all the belly-aching they've had to suffer through.

Bah Jacque, I have already lost enough MP games not to care too much about that :)

And knowing units is secondary to knowing controls... That's were experience will matter, if there are any change with MTW...

I'll probably play MP from day one. I'll have a look at the campaign, but unless it has some significant improvements in game mecanism, I'll probably dropped it, and focus on MP, or maybe some SP custom games.

The first few days will be the ones to not be embarrased in MP, you have all the excuses to loose or do foolish things.
Personally, i almost only play SP so that will be it. The only MP i did was on my home LAN, (A pompous name for two computers and a wire).

I'm gonna get it, then try and complete the roman campaign asap. Then maybe some custom battles before i venture online. Even then, i still expect my ass to be whooped.

MP should be very interesting. Seeing as how MTW MP involves lining up and chagring, hoplite style inf might dominate, but this will necciciate new wilder tactics.

Anyways, ill play lots of sp, then a little MP, maybe.

I really think on the first day I will buy a massive horde of war elephants on mp, and bring glory to the Pacaderm Empire Seriously though, I never got into mp much with shogun or Mtw, but I plan to play mp heavily with Rome.

*I also plan to try playing mp while drunk, and see if any new tactics come to mind, haha.

We need MP games without the oversimplifications required for 'good' AI.
