    I hope the gladiators aren't units the Romans field. It's a stupid unit.

    The Romans did press slaves & gladiators into service during the 2nd Punic War after Cannae, but they pressed them into service in a LEGION. They would have looked and generally fought like other legionaries...except perhaps not as effectiently due to hurried training, less loyalty to the state ect.

    The Romans fought against rebelling slaves including gladiators during Spartacus' revolt, but they certainly wouldn't have had segregated units based on gladiator type. The training for the arena, as well as much of the equipment used would have been useless on the battlefield.

    Sadly, they are. As ridiculous as the concept is, it is implemented. As I remember, it was one of the first signs of the direction which RTW has now veered in.

    We should have heeded the warning and saved ourselves heartache.

    There's the "Murmillo" gladiator unit. Okay, stupid unit... but they EVEN GET THAT wrong. F'n if your gonna make the gladiator at least do it right. Try giving that guy a sword and shield. The closes thing to a spear-user was the "trident" used by the retiarius...

    Couldn't it be that these gladiator units are in the game as some sort of rebels that show up if certain conditions take place?

    I'm hoping the gladiators are just rebel units that pop up if there is a slave revolt. But if that is the case, why are they classified as Roman?

    I'm afraid it does sound as if they will be part of Roman armies.

    Hopeful methinks *hoping like hell*
    It would be fairly cool to see a bunch of gladiators revolting . Is there a choice to hold Gladiatorial fights? If so then maybe they pop up in rebellions in those places.
