Takeda. Its greatest hardships can be turned into its greatest strengths. Just think part mongol and part samurai calvary. Don't just sit and defend a province. Early on your calvary are a huge advantage.

I have finished it on expert in eighty turns and Shingen on rank 7.

One of the early ones where you start with one or two provinces and plenty of calvary. Just go and kill an enemy clan asap.

Also what I did was leave my daimyo with one of each calvary type and not more (maybe less) and used where possible Takeda Shingen in situations where the hatamoto could get the most relative power ie attacking a two unit province (spear and bow) with two units + the hatamoto. This way the HC have a huge benefit in the battle compared with massive battles. But overall I found the most effective way was to team him up with an HC (2 later on) CA, NC and YC, and keep these units as close to max men (made a new unit of each per year). This formed an elite strike team that I used to attack attack attack. The rest of my armies where primarily for defence, except for one. I would however attack mulitple provinces of one enemy daimyo making him split his defences. Then not attack where ever he had the advantage. This tended not to happen to my elite calvary as they would be fighting maybe a one on one or maybe two to one odds.
