Thread: Search Ability

I mainly signed up for the website so I could use the search function. I have signed up and find out that I still can't use the search function. I am looking for compass information for ships and how that affects the ship building tech tree. Most of the FAQs guides I have read don't have much information about ships, or the provinces you can build them from. Most of the information I see here focuses on land units. If someone can help with the information I am looking for I would appreciate it. I just wish I could have used search to answer the question myself.

First of all, welcome to the Guild KlausBane

AFAIK, the compass and other technological requirements are a bunch of legacy features since VI. IE, they no more affect the tech tree. (Somebody should correct me on this since I haven't played for quite a while.)

As for efficient naval tactics, I suggest browsing the Guides board.

    Welcome to the org Klaus

you can build ships in any costal province with Wessex, Portugal and Denmark with bonuses in MTW (don t know about VI)
as soon as you have a harbor and a shipbuilder (to upgrade that later you have to upgrade the castle - the ones needing a cannon foundry are not avaiable until the gunpowder event)
I never saw any effect of the compass event as you can only build high sea vessels in High (1205) as Catholic - it might affect baggela building for muslims but I never really checked.

    hope that helps

Yes thats it, I think its 1230...Don't quote me on that... It allows you to build Deep Sea Ships. These can go offshore. where the water is considered Deep as they no longer need to hug the coast or get lost.

1230 is the year a certain eastern faction poke their collective noses in. Not the compass event-although I must admit I don't know when it is.

According to frogbeastegg's guide, the compass is invented in 1170 (see item 2.11 in the Beginners Guide to Medieval: Total War )
