Thread: What's your favorite song?
lonewolf371 19:33 07-20-2004
IMHO, MTW has one of the best soundtracks out of almost all the games I've played (and this is a fair amount), I think that there are some others out there who feel similarily, so tell me, what's your favorite song out of all of them?

Mine would definately have to be Viking Mobilize 1, in case any of you are wondering.

The Viking music is just great IMO it is much better than the muslim and catholic war drums (I used to like the muslim music better, but that was just because I hadn't heard the viking music at that moment).

I'd have to agree.
Although I did like the battle hymn played during battles in Lords of the Realm II as well.

I only have vanilla MTW, but I do listen to some of the tracks (I wouldn't exactly call them songs, even if they do have some choral elements) outside of the game. I like Euro Battle 1 & 3, the Arab Battle tracks, some of the Euro Mobilize, and Euro Win. If I had to pick one it would probably be Euro Battle 3-- heart-pounding combination of percussion and chorus.

Songs can easily have no words, for instance all of the Liquid Tension Experiment songs are without words, and yet many people still like to listen to them.

I've always found AoE to have some interesting songs, but I found their in-game music a little more slow and in the back-ground.

Lords of the Realm II must have some pretty good tracks.

Of all the games I've played, the one that would probably rate closest to this would be Halo. In addition to that the original C&C and Tony Hawk 2 had some good tracks.

rise of nations had pretty good ambience music.

As far as game soundtrack goes, skate type games tend to have good music, mainly because they use real songs by real bands, and it's usually punk.
C&C music is pretty atmospheric, and the Viking tracks are too.

Even I, a devout (gameplay) Muslim, have to admit that the Viking music rocks.

My wife caught me dancing to it after a particularly satisfying, crushing victory.

I know some other folks here mentioned they also noticed the music from the strategic map being used in the History Channel documentary on King Arthur (but it wasn't exactly the same - different instruments, I think, and tempo). Is it a famous medieval piece or something? Or did History Channel rip off CA?

Anyway, I like it - it's conducive to pensive decision-making ...

I also like the Gregorian chants of the opening screens ...

The battle music is cool, makes the adrenaline pump even more, but I sometimes feel like I don't need additional stress in the battles

Man, we must all be guilty of doing that. Just this week I was celebrating the success of massive hour-and-a-half long battle against the Picts, and was happily shakin' my stuff to the victory music when my girlfriend walked in.
Why are you dancing to that...?
Uh... never mind...

Yea for AoE and AoK it was just nice background music. In Age of Mythology they keep the plodding melody in the background of each culture but when a battle is imminent and then the war drums start sounding, it's pretty nice.

Nah, STW music > MTW music, despite of poorer audio quality.

Also, one of the classic game musics would have to be Warcraft 2. Starcraft wasnt bad but subpar compared to WC2.

Chalk me up as another vote for Viking Mobilize 1.

Although some of the Muslim ones are good too, like Arab Battle 1. I also like the Viking victory song.

I wind up playing Vikings a lot just because I really dig their music.
