I'd say Japan, based on the past history only, as it is now it's quite dull

Since the US is going to hell in a handbasket, I'll go with Sicily. *puts on tarentalla and dances around in a circle*

...And hairy women if i might add

The fact that the two countries I would like to live are the ones i have lived (Greece , U.K) in shows to me that people usually prefer what they got used to.
I dont have a preference , Australia (sunny, multicultural, funny accent) comes to mind , also Italy (sunny , the best 'Greece' substitute , even funnier accent) is also a choice.
What i know is that , if possible , i want to spend part of my life in a plethora of different countries. I thik i would be fine in most developed/nearly-developed countries as long as they are not too northern (Canada , Iceland) , too authoritarian ( As a principle i will not work/visit in a country that supports the death penalty) or too religious (Saudi Arabia is out).
    So my criteria would be:
-Climate ( meditteranean or tropical , but i ll settle with England)
-Language ( I would prefer if the majority of people speaks English as a first or second language )
-People ( I need to like the nation's mentality , they should not be chaching immigrants with pitchforks)
-Freedoms ( as explained above, and most important to capital punishment)
    -Money (self-explanatory)

I'd sayItaly or Grecce. But Scotland would be first choice.

Well, America would be my first choice, but I live here.

So Italy it is, then. Most likely Sicily. It's within driving distance of places I've always wanted to go, like Switzerland and Germany. Though having a border with France is never a good thing.

Greece is a close second, except that language is way too complicated, and I don't think things are very safe there at the present. The food almost makes up for it though.

I think most people would be happy in a meditteranean or tropical climate although why you would settle for england is a mystery especially with the summer we r having this year.

I'd have to say that out of all the countries i've been to Barbados wins it. The people were really friendly, the weather was excellent (it felt weird waking up at 7/8 and it already being hotter than most english summers).

hmmm....Greece seems to be getting popular....and thats my choice as well , as my father lives in Ipsos/Pergia on the island, that is refuted to be the birthplace of Achilles, namely Corfu.....so Yamas to all Grecophiles.

I'll just tell a little story of why I love the country. A few years ago I was holidaying there with a friend, and we had hired a couple of scooters to explore the island, when I learnt that my eldest brother was also on the island, but in the north, in Paleokastritsa.

Being stupid, my freind and I decided to ride up there and surprise him, with only a tourist travel map
On the way up, we stopped in Corfu town and my mate filled his scooter with petrol, I didnt bother as I had 3/4 of a tank full.

To cut a long story short we got to Paleo about 16:00 hrs and so couldnt stay too long as we had a beach party lined up for later that evening

Leaving older bro about 17:30 hrs we made our way down the spine of the island and as with most tourist maps, the road we were travelling on wasnt included in it.

It started to get dark, and we soon became hopelessly lost. Now bear in mind I spent the best part of 3 years with this guy in the Kings regiment, so the theory is that we can read a map......lol no chance

After riding round for hours, we stumbled across, what passes for a main road and turn south...then horror of horrors my fuel light starts to blink...then it goes on full red .....by now its like 23:00 hrs.

The petrol stations close at 22:00 hrs , so just as I'm starting to think I'm gonna have to buddy up with him and abandon my machine, we happened upon a dilapidated roadside workshop.

After trying to explain to the owner (by shouting at him in English ) what the problem was...he grasped what I meant and removed the tank from the Modeo he was working on and emptied (with difficulty) the contents into a bucket and proceeded to fill up my tank.....I offered to pay for the fuel, but his son who could speak a little English explained to me that his father wouldnt take my money as I was a guest in his country.

I was dumbfounded and very much impressed and thanked him profusely.

We got back too late for the beach party (we were knackered as well) and went to bed. Next day, I rode back up to the workshop but the owner was out, so I went to the garafiea and bought a bottle of the Macedonian red (obviously) and presented to his son, and again thanked him and his father.

Now if that had been in the UK I'd have been told to bugger off....and prolly wouldnt have asked anyway

...so thats why I love the place....great warm peeps, nice warm seas, and......... great lager

Malta Meh, I actually don't have a favourite country outside my own. I'm extremely interested in Central American, Balkan and Mediterainian history and culture though. Then again, the only other language I can speak is French, so I might settle for southern France.

My view is based on a very small sample, but all the Australians I've met were invariably very cool people. Also, I like pretty much everything I know about Canada and New Zealand. Other than that, for the climate, food, scenery, etc. I prefer the northern Mediterranean generally, and south Adriatic Croatian islands specifically (but not the people, I can't stand the mentality of the locals).

I'd say greece myself it has a cool climate and good food, and overly friendly people I actually only visited it once in a 2 week business matter with my brother, so its not really a full experience, i'd like to go for another visit shortly and check its history and culture.

But i have to say Spain, Sweden, Germany and Italy are really nice places too. Oh and i'm going to germany in 5 days

    Sjakihata,

    Winters. Not writers.

I would deem Greece safer than Sicily any time.

Japan. Even though I live in America, even if I didnt, Japan would still be my frist choice. The culture, the history, the people, I love it all.

Also Ireland, because I'm part Irish and I love the Celtic culture and history as well.

    Iceland. Fantastic scenery.

On the Med I'd choose Spain over Greece, if only because the language is easier to learn.

Yes but more people speak English in Greece than in Spain
