    Hey people

For all you Americans out there who have history channel (I don't know if non-U.S. receive the US History channel or history channel international), there was a special this week on I believe the Battle of Cannae. They used RTW to illustrate the battle.
It was a great preview for RTW. Watch it if you can

    P.S.

Yes, that's nice, however generally I think History Channel has quite a coloured version of history... It's in the way they represent subjects. First of all, they just love to demonstrate american power, and secondly, they don't like to talk about other nations that much either, except for some bizarre russian aeroplane that was copied from us.
I know, I am myself not very objective right now, but I just have something against the channel. I can smell a faint of Fox News on them...

The show was okay. The ingame was good, but the show was insanely simplified.
Show: The cavalry attacked, the infantry attacked. The Hannibal's spears flanked
Me: Wait wait wait, where did those spears come from?
Show: The cavalry broke through and attacked the rear.
    Me: Wait,the cavalry won? When?

What do you expect in a half hour though.

Exactly, it's not their fault really, they have a publisher or producer who gives them strict orders what kind of programs they need to do, and then the marketing section guys come and want everything redone, and then their boss comes and complains about budget overspending, and then on top of all the short time /program they've got.

That was my other complaint, they kept overlaying the host into the ingame, and you could see a fuzzy patch around him where they edited it in

    That was Rome Total War???
Must have been a beta version, the enviorment looks too bright.
    But that was COOL

BTW, I understood it. The Spears were Hannabals Nubian Spears who he put in reserves on the Flanks, and when the Romans were in a tight formation, he flanked them with the spears and the Cavalry attacked the Roman Rear.

Yes I agree history channel is biased toward American point of view. That is why they have History Channel International, right? Personally I don't know if HCI is stilled biased toward American viewpoint but I watched some in Taiwan and it seemed american-free. But yeah, History Channel is totally biased, I never see anything about Asia, Africa, or middle east hardly ever unless it had something to do with Amreicans.
Oh and I'm not saying it was a good special on history channel I myself just caught the last 15 min. I just thought using RTW to illustrate was a good preview clip for the game.

I used to have the History Channel, way before RTW was announced. But then the Cable company figured out that i'm only paying $10 for a $39.99/month Cable, so they cut off like 80% of my chammels

Oh maybe they should call it the american history channel, because they mostly concentrate on the american civil war, old west, and world war 2.

I have seen only a couple of shows like barbarians, and now this one, that have to do with something not american

For anybody who missed it, a quick check shows that this will be rebroadcast (for me, anyway) Thursday the 29th at 11:30 pm and Friday the 30th at 3:30 am (?) on the History Channel. This is EST U.S. time. You can easily find showings by typing Cannae into the search box of www.tvguide.com. (Dunno if this works outside the U.S. though.)

I saw one about WW1... If I wrote half of the stuff they claimed there on my history essay I'd get 0 points, probably. They always exaggarate tremendously the american involvement, also they like to say that their involvement is always because of moral issues... Which is hardly ever true when a nation joins war. Yes, it is a factor, but only one, and not too significant one.

Also I saw the one about the Monte Cassino bombing. They claimed that it was justified. However, all the reports I have read, say that germans specifically withdrew all troops from there because they didn't want it to be a target. However americans sent massive bomb strike against it, leveling the europes oldest monastery, a great cultural treasure.
I haven't read of anyone else but americans claiming there being germans in that place prior to bombing, I only know that germans moved in troops after the bombing, which caused heavy casualties to americans, as the ruined monastery proved to be a good fort. On that documentary they didn't mention even once this possibility that it could've been completely empty- instead they claimed there was no possibility of it being empty.
That is something that professional historians don't do, that is what propagandists do.

    Cool

Yea, as an American citizen I can't believe how much propoganda and bending the truth the U.S. puts out. What really annoys me is how we Americans say our actions are justified through some sort of morality. It seems you can't trust any American-published history book at all.

However, there is one book that tells a bit of the truth. Read People's History of the United States, if you haven't already, available at most bookstores.

RedKnight, thanks for the replay info.

lol, bighairy, the same thing happened to me.

Bah The History Channel is perfectly fine for this American

I suggest you sirs get your country to start a propagandizing history-related channel going for me to complain about.

    Kidding (Mostly)

But I did see the episode of Cannae. It was great. The engine didn't look over-awing, but that was probably because it was going through the TV system before it got to me.

AND I only saw it because I was on vacation in Cape COd, and our cottage had cable. I don't have cable at home. My parents won't pay for the junk channels you get with the few we would actually watch. SO I don't anymore History Channel anymore.
