whelp. after 15 years of internet, and 5 years of online before the internet, and about a dozen different isp's over the years, including my satellite, and my now sort of lame wireless, dsl is FINALLY coming to the area.

i signed up today for a 3 mbps, static ip, dsl line today. is supposed to arrive sept 8th, just in time for new christmas games this puppy is supposed to be 384 KB/s up, and 384 KB/s down. can you say, 'server' :) so, i'm getting my x-mas present early this year

and, having just filled up a 40 gig partition with downloads, and adding a 120 gig external back-up drive, i'm now ready to once again go shopping for a new computer. also got a new photo quality printer to go with all this. hmmm, maybe i shld open an internet cafe out in here in the boonies. let all the cows and hogs come download their emails :)

384KB both ways...Yikes You got a license for that, Mister?

Is it SBC running it out to you, or someone else? They had a spikey record here (with outages, I mean), when they started offering DSL 3 years ago, but they've gotten better I hear (was so bad, we switched to cable). Several guys at work sing SBC's praises nowadays.

So now we can expect to see our faces photoshopped onto barnyard animals almost daily. Oh the humanity

no, it's bell south and yes, i heard SBC has gotten a lot better also. SBC also recently did a huge ad campaign to improve their image and customer base. they are apparently a fairly fast growing company.

and barnyard animals? i've never put anyone on a barnyard animal... have i? hmmm....

well, i'm not absolutely sure of the 384/384, but i think that's what i read. might be wrong, but it'll sure beat my current, roughly 40/40 and only cost me about $15 more per month. current is $35/mo and this 3 mega-bit dsl will be $49.95/mo. and i pay for it by dropping my 2nd phone line, which i'm not hardly using now that i'm broadband :)

I have dsl as well, though inferior to your new connection. Mine is 230 down and 128 up, and I can say that is some good pings in games and you can download many things quickly

    So, have fun dude

I can fully understand your feelings, Krae.

When I finally switched from my 56K modem to DSL and a flat-rate 3 months ago I almost wept in joy when I started the connection for the first time

well, the current wireless isnt bad, but it's only 128 down, 128 up and no port forwarding, so no game hosting or file sharing. but it's only $35/mo. their next package up doubles that and gives a static ip, i believe, but the rate is $99/mo. and that just doesnt compete.

the satellite down was ungodly, beating T1 speeds easily. it was something like a max of 5 mbps, which varies a lot according to the bandwidth of the server you're connecting to, but i've measured it many times and would get bursts of 600KBS and averages varying betweeen 120 KBS and 300 KBS. but, the uplink was no better than 56k and couldnt host with that either. i once downloaded a 100 megabyte file in under 4 minutes. quite nice for that and browsing.

so, this 3 mbps dsl may finally be what i've been after for a long time :)

now, dont we all think kukri would look good in wool? ;)

If I wanted I could get a 100 mbps line, but that costs extra so that 10 mbps is enough.
Welcome to the world of internet downloading.
We are all aware that the senses can be deceived, the eyes fooled. But how can we be sure our senses are not being deceived at any particular time, or even all the time? Might I just be a brain in a tank somewhere, tricked all my life into believing in the events of this world by some insane computer? And does my life gain or lose meaning based on my reaction to such solipsism?

LOL KRA MBPS of course Elmo does not want to pay out the big bucks for anything more :) You see I lag in ability and if there is a little lag in the game, it kind of evens things up between me and my opponents :)
