Just now I tried to start a topic in the Entrance hall with my normal screenname (AssassinsShadow), however, it said that I wasn't allowed to post there, even though I was a junior patron I created this sn to ask why this is happening. It's obviously not my computer, seeing as I just posted this.

Happened to me before except that when i logged in i was shown as logged in but informed i was a guest.

that might be something to do with cookies and whether you let the computer store them, or if you go through a proxy browser.
I was trying to find some help in the ancient military journals of General Tacticus, who's intelligent campaigning had been so successful that he'd lent his very name to the detailed prosecution of martial endeavour, and had actually found a section headed "What To Do If One Army Occupies A Well-Fortified And Superior Ground And The Other Does Not", but since the first sentence read "Endeavour to be the one inside" I'd rather lost heart.

It could be a cookies thing. I would suggest do a clean up of them and then trying again... Its best to figure out the issue now rather then having it occur regularly.
If it does happen again if you can give us a few system specs.
Operating System (Windows...), Version (98) and version of web browser (IE 6.02 etc).
Our genes maybe in the basement but it does not stop us chosing our point of view from the top.
