Anyone know of a free plugin that allows you to copy music from your CDs to your hard drive with windows media player in MP3 format instead of windows media audio format? I have found several but you have to pay for them![]()

Now this I know of,
I tend to copy a number of albums to MP3 disc for my car (you can get more albums per CD this way).
Anyway look for a program called CDEX... That should be able to help you out.

Use this link, Lady Frogbeastegg, and I would recommend either Audacity or CoolEdit, but to be completely honest, I don't know 100 % whether they can rip CD's as well; I believe that they can, though. I use Easy CD Converter for that, which is not freeware. Anyway, check this site and you will find something for sure!
Thanks, I've tried the assorted recommendations without much success. According to Audacity's help file the MP3 encoding algorithm is patented and cannot be used in free programs, so I'm out of luck. Oh well, I'll just keep using media player.

Try EAC. That works well. Isn't WMP though...
I just use iTunes for everything now.
I broke my white headphones though.I feel left out of the iPod club now. I no longer fit in with all the other iPod-wearing masses.

The program they provide is indeed very convenient as you can also use it to convert the music of your own CD collection into MP3 files and burn them on other CDs.Originally Posted by BDC
I've been using MusicMatch Basic for a couple of years now. Very handy.
Rips CDs, plays videos, converts between formats, etc...
oh, and it's free too...![]()

I love ITunes ...great repo and a nice visual display...and lets face it, anything that dont belong to Bill Gates has to be a good thing![]()
There are times I wish they’d just ban everything- baccy and beer, burgers and bangers, and all the rest- once and for all. Instead, they creep forward one apparently tiny step at a time. It’s like being executed with a bacon slicer.

This is proving to be a real run-around. MusicMatch fiddled around with my file associations then kept telling me my CD drive was busy when it definitely wasn't. I tried 3 different discs with no luck. It also altered all my PC's volume controls; I think the neighbours got a little taste of 'there is no rose of such virtue'. I wonder if any of them will convert to medieval music because of it?![]()
iTunes promises to automatically alter my file associations yet again; I only just got finished fixing them.
So far no program has matched media players handy ability to shrink down onto the taskbar; I love that feature.
All I want to do is set the volume levels for all my favourite tracks at an even level with MP3Gain; you wouldn't think it would be so hard to do. I get fed up with having to alter the volume when the play list goes from one CD to another.

I prefer db PowerAmp Music converter. Their website has the same name, iirc, otherwise google around. ;)
It's free, easy to use and can make HQ job for archival purposes.

However, I'm surprised you are having so many problems with Musicmatch Jukebox, Froggy, it's one of the best out there IMO, freeware or not.
