Thread: Trade and the horde

    Default Trade and the horde

    I have two questions.
1: Can the GH train additional warriors? I am wondering because on the building requirements sheet they does not even appear, yet according to the unit comparision tool, you need to be pagan and to have master horse breeder and a master spearmaker to train GHHC and a horse breeders guild and a bowyers guild to train GHHA.
2: Do you need a trader building and a port to tax imports?

I'm sure the GH can train additional warriors. You can probably check this relatively easy if you start the game with "-ian" and then switch to GH.

"Tax imports" ? AFAIK, you can't tax imports. You only make money from exports. You make no money from what other people export to your provinces, only from what you export in theirs.
And for that you need a port and a trade building, yes; the province you're exporting to needs a port as well (but no trade building), and it must not already have that specific trade good (i.e., you can't export silk to a province that produces silk).

probably the lowest req troops that the GH can get are steppe cav which are available with only horse farmer and are pretty tough.

however, you don't see any appreciable number of troops trained by the GH since they are bankrupted by support costs even though they start with 20k florins.

for trade, all you need is trade building, port, and huge fleet in connected seazones to create a veritable bonanza.

As far as I know you can, atleast I've seen the port earning an income at some point.

    Edit-
As for the GH, I was aware of the that they could build Steppe cavalry and heavy steepe cavalry, but I don't know about the 'real' mongol units

    Anyway thanks chaps

    The Mongols can build:

    Naptha Throwers
    Steppe Cavalry
    Mongol Horse Archers
    Mongol Heavy Cavalry
    Urban Militia
    Peasants
    Mongol Warriors
    Swiss Pikemen
    Swiss Armoured Pikemen
    Khwarazmian Cavalry
    Lithuanian Cavalry
    Woodsmen
    Swiss Halbardiers
    Dhow
    Baggala
    Boom
    Slav Javelinmen
    Slav Warriors
    Steppe Heavy Cavalry

It is very possible to earn tax on imports. There are two ways to do this.

    1) When your trade network reaches a foreign port with a good that you don't have available in some of your provinces then the merchant in the provinces without the good will tax its import at 20% of what it would be worth to export.

    2) When a foreign trade network reaches your port then your Port will tax the exports of the other country at 20% of their value. This is when you see the port having an income.

    Thanks again chaps.
As for most of the units, I assumed that most of the non faction specific were buildable to the mongols, I was only wondering about the "ethnic" mongol units.

BTW thanks for clearing the import question up.

Well they can only build Swiss halbs, because county militia is only buildable by Christian factions.
But they need to hold Switzerland , the same with muslims.

How do you quote a quote, in this forum? The usual way doesn't seems to work.

    Edit:
And you can change how much the port gains in import in the era files, I run on 40% instead of 20% and I'm considering increasing it higher, to 60% or something. It gives the comp an actual income, atleast 200/port often higher.

We are all aware that the senses can be deceived, the eyes fooled. But how can we be sure our senses are not being deceived at any particular time, or even all the time? Might I just be a brain in a tank somewhere, tricked all my life into believing in the events of this world by some insane computer? And does my life gain or lose meaning based on my reaction to such solipsism?

The Horde can trade pretty well given the right circumstances.

    1. They must use up their initial forces pretty quickly, in my game the split their forces on me (byz) and the russians, i killed them off easily but the russians lost eveything apart from Finland. Result : the horde had gained valuable port and shipbuilding facilities.

    2. You're too busy/far away to deal with them. When they came i was busy beating off the egyptians with my Byz inf and Trez Archer combos, i had to sto the war to defend my borders and the replacements for the troops lost got the horde t9ime to develope thei provinces.

Overall this meant that i got quite a shock, the Horde had built up quite a large fleet that was rivalling mine. Since the war had never ended i had to to start sinking hsips and it all ended in a war of attrition fo,m which i got most of the former russian povinces.
