    Default Swabian swordsmen

Ok, I;ve serached the forums and only came up with a vague reference, and I can;t find them on my MTW unit guide, which leads me to suspect they are a VI addition.

I came accross swabian swordsmen by accident, trained (understandably) from swabia with a sword workshop. They seem to be a cross between axe and sword, armour piercing, good stats all around (as far as I could tell anyway) armoured themself and good moral.

Only available in early, maybe only to the HRE, but I don't know.

Does anyone know the pariculars for them? (actual stats)

I;d never even come accross them before now, and when I did it was near the end of early, so I only got a few units to play with, they perfomred really well, but I want more, so aswell as info, anyone know how I;d go about making them more available? (bear in mind I am no modder, so keep it very simple if it;s editing the unit stats file).
I was trying to find some help in the ancient military journals of General Tacticus, who's intelligent campaigning had been so successful that he'd lent his very name to the detailed prosecution of martial endeavour, and had actually found a section headed "What To Do If One Army Occupies A Well-Fortified And Superior Ground And The Other Does Not", but since the first sentence read "Endeavour to be the one inside" I'd rather lost heart.

They are VI only, HRE only and Early only. (You are correct on all accounts) You can get the Gnome editor from the download section to use it to edit the stats file for its era availablity. Alternative is that you use notepad to edit it. Remember to back up the file before making any changes.

    From FBE's unit guide:

    Swabian swordsmen
    Charge 4 Attack 4 Defence 3 Armour 3 Speed 6, 10, 11 Morale 4 Cost 325 Support cost 45

    Available: Medieval campaign.

Swabian swordsmen have a large shield, and have an armour piercing attack. This is a premium unit of swordsmen. They have better statistics than the feudal men at arms and are on a par with chivalric men at arms. Use them whenever you have the chance. The shield is not used in a melee, it guards only against missiles.

it's possible to get gold armored ones before end of early if you pretty much build straight to swabians and only upgrade armor.

they are only slightly inferior to huscarles. try to get a stockpile before going into high.

last decade or two should be a swabian every turn.

I remember to satisfy the Darg Nacht Osten goal, I unleashed a full stack of those boys in silver armor upon the 5 stacks of rabble they had in livonia under Henry the Lion who was a 7* swabian fella by then.

it was pure slaughter. I cut wide swaths through the enemy and parked them on the map edge, slaughtering them as they came in.

Swabians are awesome for HRE. My Early HRE armies always have 3 units of these nasty blighters.
A typical army of 1 Royal Knight unit, 3 Swabian Swordsmen units, 3 Feudal Sergeants, 2 Archers generally rolls over anything. Using a couple of these stacks and some garrisson troops to follow up, I usually hold France and most of Iberia before the High period. Once I've secured the west, I head south into Italy for the Holy Roman Empire goal. Swabians, I find, cut through Italian Infantry pretty damn quickly.
