Smile What building do you need to make assassin?

I have been playing for a while now, I still cant workout what building I need to make an assassin. Then I had an idea I would look for a thread a bit like it but I could not find one so I made a new one. I keep getting killed where this assassin is busting my generals. I also want to know how to in force securities

For building assassins you'll need a tavern (comes at keep level) and for defending against assassins, the best defense is building border forts. If they still come through, try placing multiple spies and/or assassins in that province.

And for building spies you'll need a castle, a tavern and then you need to build a brothel.
We are all aware that the senses can be deceived, the eyes fooled. But how can we be sure our senses are not being deceived at any particular time, or even all the time? Might I just be a brain in a tank somewhere, tricked all my life into believing in the events of this world by some insane computer? And does my life gain or lose meaning based on my reaction to such solipsism?

In VI you can make assasins that start with valor (the max is 3) all you need to do is build the upgrades to the tavern. They are very useful

Assassins built in Syria get a +2 valour bonus (same as Inquisitors/GI in Castille) so they can be built at 5 valour.

You can't do anything apart from bulding watch towers and border forts but generals with higher command are harder to kill. So if you give your generals titles that improve their command then it is harder to be killed by them,

In addition to the usual border forts.

Post 1 spy per province (MTW patch 2.01).

    Shift your troops around.

If there are reasons for inqusitors to be coming around. Have bishops around to help cover the generals.

I found this to be a bit of a two edged sword, because the bishops and cardinals raised the zeal so high that my generals would burn anyway.

Furthermore, that Papal Grand Inquisitor would hop into my province and burn someone on the same turn, and dissappear next turn to Croatia where my level 3 assassins got caught by the border fort.
And the Pope was supposed to be my ally!

If you're the English make sure you train an assassin in the year 1190 because then you'll get Guy of Gisburne (who's a 5 valour agent I think.)

SO THAT'S WHERE HE CAME FROM!! /knockhead

I got a 5 valour assassin around that time I built in scotland, I thought initially I had accidently put a more experienced agent in the back, it might have been this hero. This guy has already made 2 key kills for me (I took out the french king and all his family too, then I went and crushed the rebellious nobles who picked up from where the dead king left off, keeping the lands for holding till the French return again .... of course ;)). I'll need this guy again for when I go after the pope for excommunicating me (in two years after I will have ignored his warning) for laying waste to the HRE's border provinces and keeping the lands.

Ewe, I hate that. I finally caught one of those SOB's by spamming emissaries everywhere and salting my provinces with assassins. I would watch him, right-clicking on him to see who he was about to try in the next turn. When he was about to try someone from another faction, I would sit tight. On the turn when I found he was about to enter a province of mine to burn someone, I sic'd every assassin I could on the guy. (The assassins in the province he was about to visit had the highest probabilities of success, BTW.) He killed off a lot of my generals and assassins before then, but I finally finished him off.

Also, I'm not sure but it seems to me that I have a lot less trouble with foreign assassins and inquisitors after I ally with their home province. I mean, the Italians (for example) seemed to send their Grand Inquisitor my way far less frequently once I allied and sent them a daughter. Might have been my imagination (or luck), though.

The other thing I noticed is that ports were like magnets for these guys. Now when ever I build a port, I put two or three bishops and assassins in that province - spies and emissaries, too.

    Best,

I love Gisburne! I remember the first time I had him was when there was a very troublesome Inquisitor (a high valour one too) burning my generals. I dragged my assassin over the inquisitor and I was surprised to see such a high chance at ringing the wretch's neck. Next year came and it said that Guy of Gisburne was successful! I thought "Yeah! Try that for the bonfire mate!" All I need now is the Sheriff of Nottingham and I'll be happy .

Both cardinals and bishops raise the zeal of a province as well as converting the population (off course, they don't raise zeal if the population is of another faith).

Alims and orthodox priests don't have effect on zeal, but Imams do. I don't know about orthodox bishops, because I never use them.

AAh, finally the mystery of Guy of Gisbourne has been revealed to me! I remember getting him accidently the first time I played as the English, and simply assumed he was what you got when you first trained an assassin, but I couldn't get him again when I played again, so I thought it was because of the different difficulty levels I played on (when I got him was the first time I played MTW and played on easy). Thanks for clearing that up!

Building a watchtower and then upgrading it to a border fort is one of my first priorities at the beginning of a game and when I capture a province. As well as providing security for my generals, they increase the loyalty of the province.

Having a spy in each province will increase loyalty as well as providing protection against foreign assassins and spies. Combining spies and assassins with border forts in each province gives your generals excellent security.

Inquisitors are not a problem if you are leading an orthodox or muslim faction, and they never appear in a Viking invasion campaign.
