"Après moi le déluge"
hm, once again, what exactly is the purpose of the provinces going to be ?
because from what i've read they will definitely not be the same as in MTW, i.e. castle in province x is equivalent with province x (more or less); get the castle/fort in province x, you own and control the province.
As I understood it, it's all about areas of influence now: bigger fort/castle, larger area of influence.
Isn't that so ?
So then, again: what's the purpose of the provinces (except, of course, from having a more historically accurate map and simply because regions need a name).

Special units. Like how it says, it's famous for it's slingers.

If you should stand then who's to guide you?
If I knew the way I would take you home."

So conquering the province gets you a new unit or just improves the stats?
Maybe carthaginians get balearic slingers if they conquer the balearic islands.

Probably any faction will get balearic slingers if etc.
Hopefully balearic slingers are in the game. I haven't seen or heard any mention of them.
I'm hoping for Baldrick slingers. Ineffective as a fighting force but experts at cunning plans.Originally Posted by Longshanks

CHIEF HISTORIAN
I always thought that you still got your income based on providences, but the providences were controlled by taking the major city. Anyway, I may be wrong, but I read that somewhere, I think on totalwar.com.
Everyone in the entire world has a photographic memory... but only a select few have film.
This is how provinces work as far as I understand.
There are still provinces, though they may be called regions, or hinterlands, or California.
The big difference is, of course, the open nature of movement in RTW compared to MTW.
The faction that owns that province's city collects whatever income and/or bonuses for that province.
I have not heard whether having a hostile army in your province will keep you from collecting those incomes and/or bonuses.
I imagine that besieging the province's city will keep the owning faction from collecting income but I have not heard anything official one way or the other.
Different provinces have different bonuses.
Some have gold, some have wool, some have Ted Nugent.
To establish really profitable trade routes you probably need to have something whoever you are trading with does not have.
Provinces are basically now just a way of dividing up the map, showing who controls what, displaying who gets what resources, and providing room for strategic maneuvers.
