Thread: Question on gaining valour

    Default Question on gaining valour

I understand that military units can gain valour through battle, but how do strategic agents gain valour? Only by doing their actions, or will they gain some over time? For example, if I wait to use an Assassin and leave him hanging around, will he ever gain any valour on his own, or do I need to be out assassinating people?

No agents only gain valour through actions for an emissary an alliance or treaty may make them gain valour. Also at least for assasins if they kill a harder target then they gain more valour so for example one of my assasins with no valour killed a king and he then had two valour

    No valour for princesses.

Emissaries are based on your kings influence.

Assassins gain valour by killing targets and with building upgrades (after brothel). There are also hero assassins. One I know of is the English. Make an assassin in ??? 1192 ??? I can not remember the year, but it is early. I have also read that Syria gives a +2 valour to assassins, but this is a hidden trait of the province. The best way to make sure your assassins are successful is to send them in packs of 10. Overkill? not if you want to make sure the deed is done. If you want to kill Catholics, the best way is with Grand Inquistors in packs of 3 -5. Just make sure you get them away from your provinces quickly or they will get bored and start burning you.

Ha! This is so true, packs of ten seems to be the only way to make sure an assassination happens. If I have an assassin who happens to get up to four or five stars, they're sure to bite the dust against a 10% failure job.

The only thing I use assassins for is counterspying.

Emissaries and Princess gain valour according to how many alliances they make.

Assassins also gain valour based on the number of stars of the victim... essentially you will be about 1 star less then the victim... it seems to be like most valour which is a 2^n experience progression... in other words you have to kill 2^n people to go up valour... while each target is worth 2^(stars minus one)... something along those lines.

assassins can gain valour by doing nothing. They can catch enemy agents (spies/assassins) and gain valour pretty quick without risking losing him. Had a bunch of 2 & 3 star chaps that way. Always pays to have one guarding your kings and good generals.

That applies to spies also, of course.

I actually use assassins very extensively, and usually have a couple of 5 star ones hanging about, killing emmisaries, princessess and religious agents to raise their status, and usually by the early 1200s I will have at least one 6-7 star assassin, whom I use to kill the Pope when he excommunicates me, and any kings who re-emerge with a half dozen stacks of arbalesters, Chivalric men-at-arms and royal knights. The valour is really easy to get up to 5, but then it takes several kings to improve them.

Assasins gain valor too by capturing and enemy assasin or spy, this happens a lot if you have an assasin were your king is

Don't forget that teching up there building requirment adds valor much better than having them do their job.
