When a fox kills your chickens, do you kill the pigs for seeing what happened? No you go out and hunt the fox.
Cry havoc and let slip the HOGS of war
I didn't know gold could be warped under pressureOriginally Posted by oaty

I have limited knowledge of the thracians in 400 BCE, but IIRC the Thracians were never united, the ones situated around bulgaria where the most powerful i think, there were three or 4 dominant tribes, can't recall the names correctly, one managed to unit them for a brief period of time but they didn't hold it for long.
I was wondering if the gold mask was made to honour this king? that is if gold was of any value at that time..

Likely. Gold looks nice, well most think it does. That and it doesn't react to much. 02 included, only some rare acids. And I don't know if they occur in nature. It also is very easy to manipulate and can be made thinner than any other metal.I was wondering if the gold mask was made to honour this king? that is if gold was of any value at that time..
OT, the mask is rather impressive. Didn't Alexander the Great say that if the Thracian tribes ever unted they could conquer the world?
GoreBag: Oh, Prole, you're a nerd's wet dream.
As discovery1 said, it is very malleable and can be hammered very thin - we're talking a few atoms thin. If you look at the windshield on some jet fighters you can see it has a kind of oily sheen. This is a sheet of gold so thin you can see through it, placed between 2 sheets of the canopy glass. An electrical current is then passed through the gold sheet which heats up and de-mists/de-ices the windshield. OT I know, but I think its interestingOriginally Posted by faisal

"I request permanent reassignment to the Gallic frontier. Nay, I demand reassignment. Perhaps it is improper to say so, but I refuse to fight against the Greeks or Macedonians any more. Give my command to another, for I cannot, I will not, lead an army into battle against a civilized nation so long as the Gauls survive. I am not the young man I once was, but I swear before Jupiter Optimus Maximus that I shall see a world without Gauls before I take my final breath."
Senator Augustus Verginius
