I'm playing a game as Italians, High, Hard. Wondering when I can count on my wargalleys rolling out of the shipyard. Anyone know?

"A man who doesn't spend time with his family can never be a real man."

Compass is discovered in 1170, AFAIK.

Not sure what AFAIK means. Okay, well, do you know why I can't build a shipbuilder's guild in a province that I have a citadel in the province in 1265?

AFAIK = As Far As I Know.
For ships better than level 2 (i.e., for catholics, other than barque and caravel, for muslim, other than dhow and dromon) you need several things: compass and High age are some of them.
Also to build Shipbuilder's Guild you'll need Citadel, Dockyard and Cannon Foundry.
My guess is that you don't have the last one![]()

Aaah... thanks. Never made it this late before. Usually I've conqured everything (starting on Early) or I got bored & quit. Okay, that makes sense. The Italians actually get a level 2.5 from Venice, because they start with a Shipbuilder's guild but no cannon foundry, so you can make war galleys (not gun galleys though).
Thanks for the help!

the most advanced ships don't really do much.
just use the most basic fast ship and sacrifice a peasant or two in battle that turn to give a land defeat which makes the game engine feel sorry for you and gives you huge combat bonus on seas and gives very unbalanced results such as single dhow sinking 3 gungalleys yay!
