    Default Complete province list for Rome!

    This seems to be the only part of the file beautifully laid out, and indeed it appears that modders can add new provinces quite easily if this is anything to go by!

    I'm guessing you can only build camel and elephant units on the provinces that have them. I wonder if other units have similar restrictions.

    BKB,
    your tag explanation is missing the 4th line (between culture tag and RGB value). I am guessing this is the name of the rebels if they take over the province.

    Any guesses on the meaning of "triumph point value"? It seems to be 5 in all cases.

    Also, what could the resource "sparta" be???? It is listed on resources for Laconia and Sicilia_Graecus. Both are Greek Cities starting provinces, and I deduce that that would allow training of spartan troops!?!?

    Finally, anyone notice that the culture of all the greek cities is listed as "macedon" when there is a "greek_cities" culture assigned to Illyria and Dalmatia? Makes no sense to me. I know Macedonians and Greeks were close, but if CA went to the trouble of creating different culture style (buildings etc) for the Greeks, may as well have used it for them! Methinks this file is not final. Probably one of the first things to be modded.

    just my 2 cents

    That's not mine - I just copied it from the file.

    I count 103. In Medieval there were 99, and you could add 8, bringing the total up to 107. I hope that doesn't mean we can only add 4 to this release, because I was really hoping for a bigger budget.

    If RTW is more modders welcome, I guess they got ride of the province limit, or at least that it will much more than 107.

    @BKB,
    I suspect that the province limit will not be there. THis is only a suspicion, but it is based on the fact that the programmatic representation of the map must be different. WHy? Because in RTW you move armies on squares in the campaign map, and not between provinces. I doubt you will find a file in RTW that indicates borders for provinces (i.e which province borders which etc, although the minimap has province borders on it).

    If CA had to go to the trouble of redesigning the whole way pieces move on the map, with its associated algorithms, I would guess the old limit would not apply.

    Again this is only conjecture.

    There might indeed be a limit. Notice that you need to assign a RGB value to a province. That might mean that it also uses a LUKUP map for determining in which province an unit stands. Not that weird since you do need to have something behind the colorfull map.

    But perhaps they are using a 32-bit LUKUP map and then it would be semi-unlimited.

    Interesting.

    Some odd choices for names, though. They seem to have taken some of the tribal names from tribes that, as far as we know, did not exist as such in the time period in question. Gepids, Saxons, Alans, etc-- I don't think these are recorded in any Roman (or any other) sources before the first century CE.
