Default Modding possibilities of Demo - none?!?

I've found the necessary file (dpack_0), and opened it with Notepad. I found the battles info. I tried switching playable factions - error message appeared when I tried to start the game. Lets try simpler I thought - still the same problems. Then the ultimate test for simplicity - adjusting unit sizes. Numidian Cavalry went from 30 to 50. Surely this wouldn't cause the game to not start. But it did. Have CA made the demo impossible to mod? It seems like any kind of editing of the files disagress with the game! Is this the case or am I using the wrong tool to edit the file? It seems to be registering the changes! I hope the final game isn't like this!

    How are other modders fairing?

Probably have made the demo un-moddable.

Have you checked other files in the same folder to see if there's references to the file you changed?

No!! That's horrible! I'd ask for an official to tell us why, but then we'd have to explain how we all got the demo early! ~:p

i was thinking the exact same thing steppe. perhaps the fact that the demo only contains the tutorial and one battle(????is this true) means that alot of the modding files were not included, to help keep the download to a minimum, but when the game is released all the files needed to mod, ie startpos, campmap.... will be there.

Duke, there using new whole different folders and files, so none of the old stuff will apply.

oh. i havent got the demo yet, waiting till i get a copy of BKB, didnt really know anything about the folders or anything in it, tho it does suck a bit cuz it means novice modders used to the layout of MTW/STW folders will be back at the start, and will know squat.

    apparently, it worked on this:

    amd athlon 1.32 ghz
    256Mb RAM
    32MB integrated Graphics

there was only slowdown when the camera was zoomed all the way into the action. seems really good doesnt it???

The demo is unmoddable until we at least get a tool to browse through the PAK files. I've searched abit on the internet and it seems that loads of games have PAK files in which alot of stuff is put; skins, flags, etc. The good part is that the community of those games seemed to have made tools to load those PAK files, so it seems possible. But we do need either a person who is capable of doing that or CA needs to release tools. Until then, I'll just go back to M:TW as the Demo is already boring me

That's awesome! Those specs are almost the same as mine! I'll be able to test it for myself soon. Not that I would, er, know anything about the demo, uh, getting, um, out early....
