If you want to go through the hassle... at 3 Kbps, 141 Meg is going to take a looooooong time. Wait for FilePlanet's high-speed, and you'll have the file in less than five minutes --- then you can have the joy of staying up all morning long playing!![]()

FILEPLANET?!?!?!?! My blood boils with rage at the mere mention of that!
After all, the downlaod itself may be fast, but you might have to wait two hours also.
I've already started the DL for the demo at good old TWC. Huzzah!

60+ new units – including the mighty Indian War Elephants, Persian immortals and Indian naked female archers.
Ya, I believe the link is no good now. I guess that means unless you find a different way, you have to wait 10 hours.![]()
EDIT: NEW LINKS HAVE BEEN POSTED AT TWC. They appear to be working!
Go here:

And scroll down a bit. You will still need bit torrent I think.

I downloaded it from that link a few hours ago, I must have got it just in time, heh!
Now excuse me while I go kick some more Roman ass!
There is a new Bit Torrent link on the Total War Center Forums - working OK - I got mine. Its a .rar file so you will need Winrar to extract the files. Good news is that the extracted files are not those .mdf files that were being distributed earlier - just the demo setup files - go get it.
Wow the download speed is awesome! 280kb/s! That is without download accelerator.

I've just played the demo and I must say this is beyond my ability to comprehend! And yes, the elephants are the killing-machines they appeared to be. They kick ass ~:p. Now I long for the full game even more!

I am running on a Nvidia Geforce fx 5200, but it doesn't seem too good. I had my settings to the highest. My mouse is slow, is there any where you can increase mouse sensitivity in the game?
Downloading now! Can't wait...
BTW, using fileplanet, there was a 4 minute wait for the file at 2:17 am.
I have a pretty fast DSL connection and the download is taking 20 minutes...I would hate to see how long it takes on dial up. Ouch!![]()
Yes, got it at Fileplanet without any wait here (and without paying them either!)
Though I do long for the campaign more than the battle map, I must say that:
1. The terrain is absolutely beautiful, and the units look super, especially with animations unlinked. This is with a Radeon 9700 Pro.
2. Cavalry charges (even just the good old horsies) are pretty spectacular!
The elephants are crazy, I've had three battles so far where they've turned around and flattened my skirmishers and archers. Tips on their use will be one thing I'll be looking for tomorrow after waking up (late!)

I am running the demo at 1152 x 864 x 16
low anti-aliasing
high unit detail, terrain detail, shadows, smoke and reflections on
my system is an Athlon 2500+
512 mb ram
ATI radeon 8500 (old, I know!)
No real problems running the demo, it looks pretty damn good actually!
Like mentioned above, the horses look great, the terrain is good. I am surprised, actually, at how good it looks with my old video card. I was going to buy an ATI Radeon 9600XT today (it is my birtday today!) to better run the demo and game, but my system is holding up well as is.
Can NOT WAIT for the full game...
Seems like the game is has a much faster pace, your infantry moves a bit too fast IMO. It looks absolutely stunning and the elephants are ROOAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAR they ripped thru everything! I don't think I want to face them in my campaign, they better be very expensive!
My impressions so far..........
As with STW and MTW the training tutorial was pretty basic and I found it less entertaining than previous examples with less depth. The tutor was happy to marvel over the new camera while teaching us less about unit combining, strategy and movement. I felt like I should have been in control of the faction troops on the other side of the river, not the 3 unit sideshow I was given. For me it was all too scripted with little opportunity to 'get stuck in'. I will have to try the option to ignore the tutors advice an see if this gives more control. I disliked the green arrows under the units which were very distracting and turned them off in the preferences text file.
The interface for me was OK, but I prefer less clutter round the edge of the screen so I will probably be turning most of that off when I get the full game, if we get that option. Camera was a bit odd to use at first and i'm not sure I like it yet, I may go back to the Classic mode to retain MTW style control.
It ran fine on my Athlon XP 2400 with 1 gig RAM and a GF FX 5700 Ultra 128mb with all setting on max and medium AA. No appreciable farts or blips in the graphics.
The graphics themselves, particularly when zoomed out, do not seem that mind blowingly different to me. OK, they look great when you zoom right into the action, but how often are we going to be that close in the full game? Not often really, as we will need the zoomed out view to keep tabs on the action and units.
Trebbia was great, but I find the speed of the units on charge to be way too fast and it was all over in a couple of minutes. I can understand wanting to speed up the outcome of the battle so that we can get back to the strategy in the campaign map, but, well, it just ruined some of the battlescape atmosphere for me with all these units running around arcade style and skidding into each other, wham bam and onto the next unit slaughter. I like to savour the crushing of my enemy in a well thought out battle plan.
Overall its good to be playing with Rome and her enemies at last. The demo does not live up to the hype in my opinion, but this is nevertheless a big move forwards in TW gameplay.
This really SUCKS!
I've tried the torrent thing and it doesn't work(ar it does at 0.3 Kb/sec - I have Cable connection...)
Then I tryed fileplanet,i got dl with up to 300 kb/sec but at 30% it stopped, and when I try a different server to dl from,it seems Ican't resume the download and I have to start all over...![]()
HELP!!!![]()
The fileplanet server probably got overloaded. Try another one or some of the mirrors that are being posted on some of the RTW forums. You will get it eventually.
Keep trying at 3dgamers.com. I got messages this morning that the server was booked, but kept refreshing and after 20 minutes or so got a live link and am downloading now. Not ultra-fast but it's moving along nicely at 153Kbps.

I have to agree with Barcid, the overall pace has been sped up and its not just unit speed (i think the infantry speed is the same as MTW) but also the stats. Units seem to die way too fast, especially the cav. And the elephants... i just dont know. They're cool and all but they seem too powerful, like some power unit from an RTS (by RTS i mean the crap; c&c, starcraft, etc.) They better give an effective counter unit to every faction. The graphics though really are amazing considering the number of units per screen.
Michael the Brave - if you are still having trouble Total War Center is now hosting the RTW demo too, here is the link to the download page http://www.totalwarcenter.com/downloads/db/?mod=15
Thanks you ppl, nice knowing there's always someone here who can help.
Cheers.

Hmm, never had a problem with them myself, though I have heard of a lot of instances where people have had problems. It is a stinker that they charge, but bandwidth == cash -- it's a lot cheaper than leasing a T3 line.

The speed of the game is not really a problem as it can easily be fixed with some modding and one reason for the units dieing very fast in Trebia is the valor of the units and that with cav especially the new physics allow for more ways to die and for formations to be broken down instead of "square vs square" like in MTW/STW.
It's been said by people looking at the files with hex editors that the walk/run speed of most units has been increased a fair bit over MTW so you can just edit all that back to MTW speeds or whatever you like.
The only serious flaw I see with RTW is the battle UI, it's just not an improvement at all over MTW/STW and it's even larger, uglier and slighty less useful(can't right click units for commands). I seriously hope CA make a patch for the UI, even give us back the old one is fine. At the minimum allow us to set the opacity and make the arrows in the mini-map smaller so they arent smashed together and bring back the speed slider.
Yeah the new interface really bugged me too. I was kind of hoping that it was just a limited version of what we will really get in the game. I miss the right click options, I also miss the option to get rid of the interface almost completely so that the battle screen is clutter free.
