Default Some thoughts on the playability of RTW demo.

I really don't like this new camera action, it seems almost stuck.
As though you are having a problem trying to move. And I certianly don't like how it tilts over when you push the forward arrow on the key board.

Battle wise: It does look like the units are not even fighting, it seems to me as though they are no actually doing anything.
For example when the trebia battle gets going, you lose men but you lose them at a fast rate, and you seem to see them going, whereas MTW you could see them fighting, and the line getting killed off.
The cavalry make a fantastic inroad of non pole armed infantry, and i like the winded factor. but again, there doesn't seem to be the engagement that MTW seem to give.

    Anyone else come across these?

on the contrary, especially with regards to cav charge. Now horses actually push through, jumping, chariging and you see the enemy line is pushed back. That was what annoyed me in mtw, it was a line vs line engagement. However, real melees always turns out to be different than lines. Only legions/phalanx can hold a good line, normal inf. simply run into each other and fight.

Yes - there is a real melee feel here and I like that too!

The highlighted icons of selected units are not good enough IMO.

And this is the second day playing the demo and I got a headache again today.. maybe low fps dont know. It doesnt feel as easy for the eyes compared to MTW.

I think you have to get used to it. It helped me that I haven't touched M:TW in 6 months.

It's a nice touch the way the spearmen sometimes fall when absoring a charge. Seem more realistic. I mean you can just stop a whole squadron of cav dead without at least moving back quite a bit.

I also like the way when the infantry get too close the spearmen/pikemen draw their daggers to protect themselves. I thought that spearmen were weak against swordsmen in MTW because they didn't do this.

Same for me. I highlight units on the field, and look for the highlighted unit card, and can barely tell which one it is. maybe a reddish tint or some other color would work better. But since red is already used in some of the small icons, then perhaps a light blue or something. i dunno, color can be sorted out quite easily.

Agree! That really needs to be worked on. It's to hard to tell which is selected individually. Groups are easier to tell though. Maybe making the unselected units darker then they are now could solve it easily enough. And perhaps making the selected units a bit brighter aswell.

As i recall in the vids released earlier this month the highlighted units looked lighter in color so maybe in the full release.

Thumbs up Re: Some thoughts on the playability of RTW demo.

I been playing MTW recently and have to say that, once i had mastered the fact that many of the left click commands from MTW are now right click ones, i thought that the new RTW battle engine is a massive improvement. Where do i start?

The units are much more realistic in their movements
    They engage more realistically

I didnt find the camera more clunky at all and was especially pleased at just how much u can zoom in or out-again a vast improvement on MTW

All in all top marks Creative Assembly-now cant wait to get to grips with the full campaign as it loks like there are all sorts of goodies in there too
