Distance From Demo Server

Ok im attempting to d/load the demo from 3DGamers, at first i attempted to use the netherlands server but it was full so i used the australian one. I was just wondering if my d/load will take longer as its coming from australia and whether i should just wait for a spot in the netherland one
Any help whould be greatly appreciated

Hello TCon88,

Yes, that can be possible, it has to pass more relays and routers. But downloading close at home is no guarantee for better speeds.

I've downloaded files from all over the globe. I've had 40-90 kbs from far away and 4 kbs near my home!?!

Speeds vary greatly and you better pick the one you think is stable and reasonable.

Dunno...but i think that if the server is closer there are less "hops" involved and may resukt in a faster dl, in my ase i'm not too fussed, 7 more hours on Fileplanet for the thing to dl so wish me and my 56k connection luck!

Thanks Tosa, ive managed to get 7% done from the australian server and ive got a resumable download manager so i should be able to get it done in about 11 hours, lucky me....

Where are you from at what kind of connection do you have?

Oh UK. I'm from The Netherlands and will put the RTW file on my server within a few minutes.

Im from the UK and have a 56k connection, im now at 17% on the d/load...

It's best to post here when you start downloading and post when finished (especially broadband users). So you guys can limit it to 5-10 people downloading at a time. This prevents people getting 0.0045 bytes/s.

Well, an update, i'm 37% done! Wooh! Fileplanet is telling me i have 5 hours left to go - considering the leap from 6 hours to 5 has taken my connection 2 hours i think i'll be pessimistic and go for something like 7 hours. now what could i do fo 7 hours that doesnt require much CPU cycles (i have a hated softmodem)

Has anyone else found this problem:

I downloaded from work earlier today from one of the 3dgamers mirros (the Australian http one I think). But though the resulting file is the correct number of bytes, when I try to extract I get an error with a corrupt dpak_1 file. Have tried 3 different zip programs, all agree it is corrupt.

im currently downloading from the above server. Im only 56k but i have a stop-start manager so hopefully i'll get there eventually.
Thanks for putting that up, I tried 3dgamers but every time I started on a server it completed straight away and said the file was corrupt.

Well it took 11 hours and then i went to bed but i now have the demo. Still got to play it properly though, just had a little shot. Lord of The Isles i got mine from that server IIRC and i didnt get that problem.
