Could you please tell me what Battles he fought at?

I know of a Lieut. Colonel Elbert Bland who served in the Army of North Virginia as commander of the 7th South Carolina. I'm not sure that's what your looking for but, that's all I got.

Capo, the National Park Service's Gettysburg website has a page about searching for your Civil War relatives. You can find that here: http://www.nps.gov/gett/ancestors.htm
The above page mentions this site: http://www.civilwardata.com./pers_dir.html

Without paying a membership fee, it will tell you if your relative is listed in their records - they have about 77% of all soldiers on each side in their database so far. I did a search on "Bland" from Virginia and it came back with 63 Blands from Virginia. Unfortunately, the highest rank was a Captain J T Bland. There was no origin (town/city) listed for him.

Basically, the more you can find out about him before you start your search, the better the chances of locating him. For example, where did he live in Virginia?

    Good luck with your search.

Thanks for the help so far guys.
I found info on Lt. Col Ebert Bland too, so I am tempted to think that that must be him, maybe he got transfered to a different regiment or somthing? I dunno. I'll find out some stuff on him from me granddaddy later today to help. He doesn't know much about him but I am sure he could clarify some stuff on him.

Also, a tidbit of information, an ancestor of mine was responsible for the American defeat at Brandywine. Theodorick Bland. He, too was a Colonel. I tried to find his geneolegy but to no avail. If I could find records of his children and grand children maybe i can find more information on my missing Colonel?

Capo, did you know Theodorick Bland was a descendant of Pocahontas?

Did your ancestor die at Chickamagua or survive the war? If he died at Chickamagua, then Lt. Col Elbert Bland is probably your man.

I really don't know if he died or not. I'll ask my grandpa tonight, we usually call him every night, so I'll find out.

Not him, Lt. Col. Elbert Bland was from Edgefeild County, South Carolina, I am 100% sure that my ancestor was from Virginia. Mercian Billman, you found Geneological Records of Theodorick Bland? Can you send them to me? Caporegime1986@aol.com thanks

Please do, I have to confirm not only the colonel, but the method of my relation to Theodorick (I know I am related to him, but I am not sure how, probably I am a decendant of a brother or Cousin.)

I've done a search for the geneology of Theodorick Bland and, ended up with nothing. It seems as if he's also related to the Lee family. If you know the county he was born in you should be able to pull birth records of him and his children. A lot of that stuff may have been destroyed in the Civil War though, your best bet would be to check and see if the "College of William and Mary" or "Washington and Lee" have geneology records.

Since Colonel Bland comes from a old Virginia family; there almost has to be a record of him and his descendants somewhere.

I'll try looking for more info tomorrow but, your best bet would be to check with County records or certain Colleges like the ones I've mentioned.

BTW try checking with VMI and, West Point as well, I doubt they have geneological records there but, if your ancestor fought for Virginia there's a good chance he may have been educated at one of those schools.
