Question Medieval XL and Super High Beta

Could anyone please give a brief summary as to what these mods do and how they change the game from normal? Is it possible to install them and still play the standard game if you wanted?

    Thanking you.

Hi Feanor -- I'm not sure what the XL is, but Super High Beta sounds like the Blind King of Bohemia's excellent mod, which adds all sorts of new units, factions, and map spaces. But it also sounds like it's an early version of it; I think that both Early and High are finished in his mod, and only late is still in Beta. Here's the 3ddownloads link for the most recent version I know of: http://www.3ddownloads.com/strategy-...sion%201.0.exe

As far as I know, you can still play vanilla MTW without a problem; BKB's mod creates separate startpos, unit_prod, and build_prod files from the defaults, so you can just select either regular or modded MTW when you start a campaign or custom battle. It's certainly worth checking out.

    XL is Viking Hordes Mod,
Its similar to Superhigh or Supermod (The Blind Kings project) with new factions, provinces, buildings, and units but unlike Supermod, in XL the Glorious achievments still work . BKB's mod is more expansive and experimental, with lots more new units and buildings but there are still a few glitches to iron out. Both are excellant (if not essential) game enhancements. There are several versions of Supermod, Superearly, SuperHigh and Supermod plus Superlate the add on for Supermod. The last two are the most rescent which include everything to date and are self installers.

    Hi Feanor

My mod has some new AI settings, unit stats and new trade structure. It makes the game a lot harder because the AI builds better units, is less likely to rout in-battle and you can't build a huge trade empire anymore. The AI is not able to build trade empires, so why should the player. The mod still needs some balancing and has a few minor bugs, but works ok. The final version will be out in a few weeks.

Note that superlate is also out, although there are still a few bugs (a patch will be released).
You could try Hellenic Total War (HTW) if you like the greek era.

Most of the mods overwrite the original MTW files (except vikinghorde's mod) so you may need several installations of MTW if you want to play many of them at the same time.

Yeah the final release of my mod will iron out these flaws, although there is only one at the minute which drastically interferes with gameplay. Check out my thread in the Engineers Guild for all the details you'll need.
