Question MTW ran fine but RTW is extremely laggy. Suggestions?

I posted this elsewhere but received only one entertaining but not very helpful response.

I am running the demo on a laptop with

    P4 2.5 gh
    512 Ram
    SIS 650 Chipset

While MTW runs like a charm (moderate settings), RTW demo is very jerky. There are a lot of lags though I have everything on min settings. The camera movement is very choppy--not at all like smooth moving MTW, even while using pause.

I know that laptops aren't typically very responsive to newer games, but I thought that since MTW worked and the developers stated that the requirements are approxiamately the same, it should run smoothly.
    However it doesn't.

Perhaps I should start pricing other chipsets or just a new desktop?
Any informed suggestions would be appreciated.

Most of the performance of a game like RTW is in the graphics card. Where MTW can get away with a decent (not super) graphics card, RTW needs the muscle.

What are you running for a video card? You've got plenty of processor and RAM for good performance -- my guess is that your bottleneck is either in the video card or in a video/chipset bugout. I had a Radeon 9700 Pro that behaved like that and it turned out to be the VIA chipset, don't know about SIS. I ended up getting a new mobo (A7N8X, runs like a treat) but with a laptop you're more limited.

Well, I get kinda lag regardless of the settings. My card is Geforce FX5200.

To be fair to CA, I did have a bit of an improvement when I updated my chipset drivers from SIS.

    No anti-aliasing though

Must say as well that the detail in the troops is remarkable, though I'll probably never get good movement with current config/hardware. Probably doesn't help that the controls are so bloody awkward.

Anyone suggest a tried and true mobile graphics that will help improve my fps?

Uhhh... whining that the latest full-3d game doesn't run silky smooth on your LAPTOP is kind of redundant don't you think? Laptops aren't made for gaming.

    PS: GFFX5200 is a POS.

    I appreciate the responses.

To clarify, my intention was not to sound like a whiner. Only that since MTW worked so smoothly and the developers stated requirements are approxiamately the same, it should work on the same machine, right?

Anyway, I love the detail in the units but would like some suggestions as to video chipsets/cards or tried and tested new processors that would allow for a truly real time experience.

    What??
I used a GeForceMX440 for testing the demo and it lagged horribly....what processor speed do you have, and how much RAM do you have>?

Try the ATI 9200 SE, I had to buy a cheap card to play the demo (70.00 at COMPUSA after the instant rebate, plus another 30.00 in mail in rebates) It plays fine at the higher than normal settings. All the way up, it seems to lag somewhat.

    I have an
    AthlonXP 2800+
    512 RAM
ATI 9200SE 128mb card from XTASY

Wait for the full game to figure out what to do, and you could save money in a months time anyway!
