If you get bitten by a squirrel you have to get rabies shots I think...and rabies shots are nast...one goes in the bite wound and you get like 5 more in the stomach wall over the next week *shudder*

I wonder why he thought it might be scottish due to its aggression? Surely we aren't that bad in others eyes?

Very enoyable nonetheless though, and good for the squirrel. Nice to see they can stand up for themselves against evil bikers!

Actually, the rabies vaccine has improved tremendously since it was first developed - you get the shots in your arm or in your butt now. (Five in all, over the course of a month.) They also give you a dose of immune globulin (basically concentrated antibodies - meant to prevent infection from the initial exposure) at the site of the bite if they can. They usually don't recommend rabies vaccine for rodent bites - small rodents and lagomorphs (rabbits, woodchucks, etc.) generally don't get rabies naturally - though they can be experimentally infected in a lab.

Ugh - I sound tedious! To many years working with this stuff. Great story, though! Years ago my sister called me up in a panic saying that a squirrel had gotten trapped in her apartment and she didn't know what to do. I laughed and said "I'll be over to rescue you from the teensy-weensy little squirrel." The thing was CRAZED! Kept making these weird screeching noises and bounding from one end of the place to another at about mach 2. Chewed most of a windowsill away trying to get out, tore three rooms appart, climbed the walls and furniture. Her big cat was so scared it was shaking, and so was I when I got done. Finally chased it out an open door and down three flights of stairs - I was so glad no one else opened their door on the way out. I kept imagining some old lady dying of fright as the thing ran up her leg.
