    Default Change of heart

I have now played the rome total war demo quite alot, using many different tactics. The reason I have done this mostly is to learn to love the new style, despite its widely discussed problems.
You know what - its worked.

The thing that finally convinced me was going back to play MTW.
I know its not the most important thing but I tell you what, IMO graphically how can we ever say a harsh word to CA.

And here's one that will get a reaction.

    Sometimes MTW is bloody slow!!!!!!!!!

    Some great things about RTW

The charges are so much better. The charges are so much better. The charges are so much better. The charges are so much better. The charges are so much better.

Thank f*&^ they fixed that one, that was well annoying.

    Better landscapes.

Better bridges. (MUCH MUCH MUCH MUCH MUCH BETTER)

    Easy modding.

    Rallying by general.

    Cavalry circle thingy.

Phalanxages. (This is the new plural to phalanx).

    Men getting knocked off horses.

TOO BORED TO LIST THE BAD STUFF.
    We already know all that.
Am not fully informed but the graphics look nice but to be honest all previous incarnations were rubbish even though I don't know that for sure

Exactly what I think, at least we won't fall asleep any longer and in my opinion the cavalry charge is the biggest improvement.

Medieval had a nice slider so that you can choose your own pace. Rome makes starcraft seem like chess, its too fast to the point of being frustrating. The unplayable speed simply rewards the tactic of throwing masses of troops at your opponnent, as there isn't really time to do anything else before the battle is over. I tried flanking the enemy, but was disgusted to find out that infantry move so fast as to negate the speed advantage of horses. This is in custom battles, too, not in the fixed trebia battle. Infantry move at about the top speed a human can run, with unlimited endurance, while wearing metal armour. Battles are also over almost before they start, and I had to use extensive use of the pause button, which I never needed to use in MTW.

The pace of battle is unacceptable in the demo. It lacks the grandeur of deliberate troop movement of MTW and takes away the feeling of controlling a mighty army. On trebia, I felt as though I was trying to quickly fend off a swarm of zerglings, not romans.

I'm not too worried though, because I know that if this problem isn't fixed, someone will definately mod it, seeing as how there is so much reaction.

Therefore with my eyes thou shalt see, and with my ears thou shalt hear; and never shall thou move from this place until all is fulfilled unto its bitter end". -Tolkien

Yeah I hate having to use the pause button. I don't mind using it at the beginning so I can order my troops, but once the battle starts I like to not have to lean on that crutch.

Good to hear that danimal, it's takes allot of guts to admit you were wrong at first. And i agree, the RTW attention to detail is a thing of beauty, and especially as you can view it in 3D. Now, just dont get too used to those RTW controls

The pace should slower down a bit, in Single player you can use the Pause button, but imagine during a multiplayer.... It instantly becomes an FPS game.

Just played it off the pcgamer disk seems alright to me although im a compulsive pause command user anyway. everything looks fine and sounds fine. Bit annoyed with the advisor already.

Yeah - I found the Adviser annoying. wanted to give a big slap within about 10 seconds ha ha ha

But the graphics are much much better - Thanks CA
