This is huge news. After Rome I very much doubt they'd use Medieval, so surely this will be the first showcase of Medieval 2 using the Rome engine. Imagine all the battles we can look forward to - this will be amazing!

I'm not a modder, but I wonder if it would be relatively easy to use the RTW tactical battles engine but just alter the units to be medieval? In otherwords, I don't think TC2 implies there will a MTW 2.
Odds on its just a mod made by CA for Rome, but hey, at least it proves it exists and could well come soon after Rome. Good news for all then.
In series 1 they said how easy it is to mod it to any battle they wished.
"A man may fight for many things: his country, his principles, his friends, the glistening tear on the cheek of a golden child. But personally, I'd mudwrestle my own mother for a ton of cash, an amusing clock and a stack of French porn."
- Edmund Blackadder
This is indeed EXCELLENT news, as it means that my HYW mod will not die, I will simply transfer it onto the Rome engine.
Anybody care to guess at which battles they will select....
Hastings
Agincourt
ShadesWolf
The Original HHHHHOWLLLLLLLLLLLLER
Im a Wolves fan, get me out of here......
this is just more proof that the next game is going to be MTW2.
MILLER: I wish we lived in the day where you could challenge a person to a duel.
MILLER: Now, that would be pretty good.
Excellent... any news if Aryeh is back? Can you imagine him...
No, no, no... do not use your peasants to attack their jedi general!
Look at my big medieval cannon balls!

Medieval Time Commanders? Woah that is gonna be sooo cool.![]()
"Believe those who are seeking the truth; doubt those who find it."
As long as they bring it on BBC1 or BBC2, then me can watch TC2 too.... yay!
Of course, I could've read the site before posting this.Yay, it's on BBC2!
This is excellent new, would like to see the medieval units in full 3D especially the highland clansmen, dont know why, just do.
Actually if you read it correctly it does not say it will be medieval battles, it says " Cult smash Time Commanders will return to BBC2 this autumn with a new series of battles, moving on from the ancient world to include the Mediaeval."![]()
Regard your soldiers as your children, and they will follow you into the deepest valleys.Look on them as your own beloved sons, and they will stand by you even unto death
- Sun Tzu, the Art of War
I was going to do something really silly - like pointing out the spelling error -but I checked the Lion TV page myself and that's where it originally came from, so I now see why you put in in bold and with themoving on from the ancient world to include the Mediaeval."![]()
I'm more used to seeing a "(sic)" placed after howlers of this sort, in a quote, that's all.
Media-evil would have been a more amusing slip o' the keyboard![]()

Looked a little bit funny to me too, but i checked it on wordiq.com and it's just a British variant: "The corresponding adjective is spelt medieval in American English and sometimes mediaeval or mediæval in British English.)"Originally Posted by EatYerGreens

It's actually English English, i.e. as we use it in England. Time Commanders is an English programme. Why do *you* spell it wrong?
If it's "English English" why do you "English" usually prefer to use the non-English English version so much then? Went to bbc.co.uk and did a search on 'medieval' (3998 hits) then 'mediaeval' (373 hits and it asks 'Were you looking for "medieval"?'). Make up yer minds, eh?Originally Posted by Frankymole

I can't answer for bad spelling. I have an A-grade English A-level. The average reading comprehension age in the UK amongst adults is that of an educated 9-year old (BBC results). Spelling is worse thanks to Microsoft spellcheckers (usually defaulting to US Websters ). The game itself uses the American spelling for sales purposes. No biggie. I'm telling you that it is "Mediaeval" - meaning "Media" (middle) "Eval" (age) in English.
He's right, you know, whenver we Enlish folks press F7 we get yankie spelling. I'd never written it like mediaeval and I'm English - maybe I just suck!
Isn't it funny how people trash God and then wonder why the world's going to hell?
On-topic.
Such good news! I'm really looking forward to this new Time Commanders series. Let's not get our hopes up for M:TW2 though - it's all too easy to mod the engine to support medieval battles for us to draw any conclusions yet.
And about medieval/mediaeval:
US English has dropped the 'a' in 'latin' words like gyn(a)ecologist and pr(a)etor. UK English has retained it in some words and abandonded it in others. And just to complicate matters further in their unrelenting effort to make the spelling of UK English the most absurd of all languages, it sometimes will allow both variants. In the case of medieval/mediaeval the latter is considered an accepted variant of the former, but with an archaic feel.
woohoo MTW on the rome engine rules![]()

I bet BBC Wales puts on coverage of regional football and rugby matches instead. They've pulled that stunt before![]()
I think all CA have done was to mod some of the Rome units to look more mediaeval, which presumably means that we can expect some dark age and mediaeval mods appeaing in the next few months. I would expect M:TW2 to be an expansion pack for Rome rather than a seperate game.

Not if they have some battles in wales. Preferably ones in which the welsh win.
Oh yeah and MTW2 will rule.![]()
By the way what does the princess emoction mean.
I hope this is evidence of MTW2 .It's simply the best time period in history to base a TW game.
Jes' out of curiosity, how would one go about trying to get back episodes of Time Commander?
(yank who doesnt' watch tv very often)
Ngata tsukelan mokwisipiak!
Doesn't seem to be available on DVD yet... but I think you can (or could) download it somewhere... wow that was helpful... NOT.
Yikes,
my apologies for side-tracking this thread into a spelling (UK vs. US vs. M$) debate with what was meant to be a humourous aside. Also my bad for forgetting that the ae bit was, in fact correct all along. Only trouble is I couldn't remember how to get the dipthong character to appear. Some fonts don't have it at all. (Goes off to double-check) Doh! Alt-0230 in Arial æ
Not my day today. (where's the sulk smiley?)
Hmm, even the smileys aren't working for me at the moment. IE is in a permanent loading page state while I type a reply and clicking the smileys fails to update the edit window.
Being totally new to MTW I was slightly taken aback by the sprite-like quality of the troops. Even though STW also uses sprites, they look convincing enough, with shine on the armour making them appear slightly 3D. The MTW ones look almost cartoon-like, by comparison. More colourful, certainly but at the cost of looking like rotating cardboard cut-outs. Early days for me though - I've not reached the stage of getting the more advanced troop types, so I'll see how things pan out.
A mediæval TC series will be well worth a watch and it would be great if a team of TW SP or multiplayer veterans could bluff their way onto a programme by expressing an interest in the show's theme but totally denying any tactical expertise, or knowledge of the game-engine, on their part :D
If the 3D is as good in RTW as it was in the TV series then I'll be very impressed. Mind you, it must demand a shipload of gfx card memory and processor power to render hundreds of copies of such a wide range of textures, not to mention the terrain on top.
I remember the show had occasional close-ups of individual troops in these units (some of which I recognise in the avatars some of use use here). Can this zoom-in be done in RTW? (or is that off-topic for here?)
If not off-topic, am I missing out on an in-battle zoom function in MTW? Given what I've said so far, it can only make unit appearances worse but if it is there, I'd like to know, all the same.
TIA,
EYG

AFAIK, the best you can do is move the camera up and down (try the scrolly thingie on your mouse... whaddayamean you haven't got a scrolly thingie), forward and backward, and left and right.Originally Posted by EatYerGreens
SO you can kinda zoom in but not to the level of detail that you get in RTW
Well i can't wait and see how it's going to play
Or even medii (middle) aevii (ages) turned into an English adjective.Originally Posted by Frankymole

Out of interest, Nus, you wouldn't happen to be connected to the series at all... and your intials wouldn't happen to be AN would they?
Just curious.

It'd be fantastic if he really was the Nus man himself! So what battles are in the new series? Sounds like we'll see many new units.
The battles are (not necessarily in the order they'll be shown):
Stamford Bridge
Hastings
Hydaspes
Teutoberger Forest
Dara
Sarmizegethusa
Cynoscephelae
Troy
