Out of interest, Nus, you wouldn't happen to be connected to the series at all... and your intials wouldn't happen to be AN would they?
Just curious.

It'd be fantastic if he really was the Nus man himself! So what battles are in the new series? Sounds like we'll see many new units.
The battles are (not necessarily in the order they'll be shown):
Stamford Bridge
Hastings
Hydaspes
Teutoberger Forest
Dara
Sarmizegethusa
Cynoscephelae
Troy
Will there only be 8 episodes then? A shame if true. Still, if you are really Mr Nusbacher, on behalf of the entire forum I'd just like to say that you are, in my eyes at least, a legend and it is a privilege having you here. So can we expect new 3D Saxon, Viking and Norman units? And is the lone Berserker present on Stamford Bridge? And is Mike Loades as enthusiastic as that off the air? And finally, is Saul David really the ladies man of the series that he comes across as?The battles are (not necessarily in the order they'll be shown):
Stamford Bridge
Hastings
Hydaspes
Teutoberger Forest
Dara
Sarmizegethusa
Cynoscephelae
TroyThanks in advance.

Only eight shows were filmed for this series. Will there be any more? Only the Beeb could say.Originally Posted by The Blind King of Bohemia

Apologies for any questions that go unanswered. The answers to some will be revealed in the fullness of time (i.e. by watching the show in January and February). Some questions are, I assume, rhetorical.
Thank you - I very much look forward to seeing these in January/February. I see you left the Saul David one well alone - probably best given the circumstances.![]()
RE: medieval/mediaeval.
As noted, the word itself is a compound of medium (middle) and aevum (age). In the actual Middle Ages people began to use an e with an accent (called a caudata, like a little comma under the e) to indicate the ae dipthong; sometimes they even left out the caudata. This has raised a debate amongst modern scholars as to whether we should transliterate this as an ae dipthong or just an e. You will often see older texts use the ae, while more recently you'll see it dropped.

Who cares if time commanders is back thats good enough news for me, finally some interesting war programs on tv :P espeically great as it uses total war series interface.
Shame they dont allow clans or experienced players from our totalwar community to join, Im sure all of us could do a better job then some of them guys/girls that go on there every weak and lose horribly :D![]()

In case you didn't know, the old-fashioned ethos of the BBC was summarised in the quote "inform, educate, entertain". This programme does all three.Originally Posted by Clips
I have a casual interest in history, in that any info offered up I will pay attention to, but it doesn't extend as far as setting aside time to head to the library and actually read up on stuff. This is why about half of the battles on that list are ones I have never even heard of! If my knowledge level is average then that means a fair number of people stand to gain some knowledge they didn't have before.
As for the contestants, I will say two things.
Part of the show revolves not around the battle tasks at hand but the team dynamic. Sometimes they get sound general's decisions, which then get countermanded by their lieutenants, with mixed results. Other times the subordinates demonstrate an understanding of strategy and tactics exceeding that of the gens but play ball and wait to get approval from the leader, who then says 'no, do this instead', they obey, albeit grudgingly and the team end up getting creamed.![]()
The other thing is that by lousing up badly, viewers can see how NOT to do it and the historians can shine in their bit at the end where they show 'this is what really happened'.
If there was a decent set of players, the lesson might still be there but it won't hit home quite as hard. It also takes the wind out of the sails of the experts if the team won by basically playing out what happened historically.

I can't remember the names of the military historian experts who appear every week, if that's who you meant. Care to jog my memory?
TIA

He means Aryeh Nusbacher (though I am afraid I have made a total mess of the spelling. Sorry for this.) Every show there were two historians commenting on the performance of the players, and one of them always was Nusbacher. Mike Loades was the historian who appeared in the first three shows only. He was the one who threw toothpicks at Nusbacher during the replay of the Battle of Watling Street.Originally Posted by EatYerGreens
