THe article is good and mentions several things that I both agree with and of course disagree with - but the frontroom is not the place for the discussion because its politicial - if it goes to the backroom - I might make other comments but in keeping with why there is two rooms in the Tavern - I will refrain from futher discussion on this topic
O well, seems like 'some' people decide to ruin a perfectly valid threat. Nice going guys... doc bean

I thought this was the place for soft discussion and that the Backroom was for barking at eachother?

I'm sure we can discuss things with civility

I think too much has already passed for a major change in the trend of party donations. Here in the UK we are trying to limit the amount a party can use to 'advertise' itself but the cash is flowing at a staggering amount in the US. I think it was the New York Mayor (cant remember the name Rudey or something) spent $50 million plus for just the mayoral position of one city.

On a personal note this is just another reason for me feeling like a socialist - I am one and this affirms my faith

The money saved by not donating could what? ..... cure AIDS? feed the staving? build 100 schools - probably, and here we see another area that is seeing a massive increase in private funding. The local education authority i work for is a private company, schools are being built funded with corporate money and the 'partners' have a say in the curriculum. To me that is disgusting and I can't believe its the so called left wing party, Labour, that is making these drastic changes.

    1. Wrong forum

    2. I only skimmed it, as it seemed to pretty much "evil republicans accept money for their campaigns". Lets not forget that both parties are as guilty as each other. Bush may be financed by the energy companies, but Clinton was financed by the Chinese - a brutally repressive communist dictatorship lest we forget.

    3. He seems to be asserting that this is only an American phenomenom. I shall certainly never forget the day that Tony Blair, less than 2 weeks into his reign as PM reneged on an election promise banning tobacco advertising in sport by giving Formula 1 an exemption. That Bernie Ecclestone gave Labour £2 million the day after is of course a coincidence That was the day my Tory hating left wing partisanship ended and I realised that all political parties are as bad as each other.
"I request permanent reassignment to the Gallic frontier. Nay, I demand reassignment. Perhaps it is improper to say so, but I refuse to fight against the Greeks or Macedonians any more. Give my command to another, for I cannot, I will not, lead an army into battle against a civilized nation so long as the Gauls survive. I am not the young man I once was, but I swear before Jupiter Optimus Maximus that I shall see a world without Gauls before I take my final breath."
