Some annoying quirks in RTW (not the usual OMFG ITS NOT EXACTLY MTW complaints)

This post isn't complaining about the changes to RTW. I just noticed some quirks during gameplay.

A thing that stood out to me was the way Generals fight and die. When I was testing Phoen Inf. Phalanx formation vs Tiarii the Roman general must have been knocked down almost half a dozen times and still did not die! It seems to me that Generals seem to have a crazy amount of hitpoints. I can understand giving them an extra 1 or 2, but this is ridiculous!

Another thing I noticed is a buggy attack quirk that happens if some of men of a unit run ahead of the other men and engage the enemy before their fellow soldiers join the fray. This makes the whole unit think its in combat! So you have ten guys fighting off a 100 with 90 others slowly walking to meet them several dozen meters away! This is really annoying because it causes you to suffer extra casualties.



As you can see, you have more than a dozen legionnares engaged with the rest of their troop slowly inching their way toward the fighting. By the time the men reached their brothers more than half of the engaged legionnares were dead.

Lastly, I just saw this and thought it was funny:



The guy carrying the banner is half way has some amazing air! How can a man jump head, shoulders, chest, and waist over another man?! Especially like that!

I actually think that Generals die rather easily compared to previous Total War games where it wasn't uncommon to have totally surrounded a King or General and have them kill or rout most of your untis before fleeing themselves and fight and kill their way out of the middle of all of your units and flee.

I think the individual soldier thing is what the devs bragged about with each soldier having an AI.

it's not so bad with swordsmen as they don't need rank bonuses but could be an issue for spears.

I've had fairly non jedi generals from my experience.

the guy in the fur might have been spitted and gotten heaved up, who knows?

Maybe the general did get spiked. He's looking good though. His soldiers would surely follow him to the ends of the earth! Maybe it's that jumping stab technique like what Bradley Pitts does on Troy.

Sorry, couldnt resist the dig to the Toffee fans out there. To me it looks like he's right bum cheek is on the shoulder of the guy to his immediate right - perhaps jumping to get out of the way of the chuffin hug spear being thrust menacingly at him?

Why do the pole-bearer's wear that fur thing anyway? It seems a lot more Barbarian than Roman to me.
