"The old UBB board had a rank system, it was something simple like make 10 posts and you are a ronin, make 200 more and you are samurai hero. You had to make 1,000 posts, which could result in a custom avatar. Many wanted a rank system when we moved to the new board, so one was implemented. However, in mid-2004 after a discussion about avatars, it was decided to ease up on the 500 posts requirement needed to select your own avatar. Currently avatar selection occurs once a patron reaches 500 post or has been at the Member level for 4 months. This change benefits those who have been around for a while but don't post very much. Regarding avatar pictures, there are a few hundred avatars to select from and more are added periodically. For Members and higher, they have the option of using Custom Avatars via their Control Panel."
