    the trailers look spectacular, sort of a cross between 'emperor of china' and 'hidden dragon, crouching tiger'. but i'll wait till it's out on dvd and just buy it.

    not that great, but decent

    i liked Emperor and the Assasin much better - and i think most who play total war would as well

    the movie came out in 2002; I saw it in 2003. it made the Hong Kong circuit and then Hollywood got ahold it.

    anyway, it was purchased for release, and was subject to the usual butchered editing and dubbing alot of Asian movies go through. tarantino agreed to attach his name to it in return for it being released and distributed in its original; he didn't produce it or anything. if you watch this movie intheaters and then see it on a DVD from 2003, it is the exact same movie down to the subtitles.
    but since alot of people will see his name associated with the movie (in adverts, etc.), they'll go see it (which was prob his bargaining point).

    I haven't seen "Hero" but I LOVE "Emperor and the Assasin"!! I just fished watching "Musa". That is also a great flick.

    More an exercise in style than anything really worth watching. Personally I like stuff like romance of the three kingdoms TV series much better.
