Thread: RTW release date
Essex_Cohort 15:42 09-09-2004
Just fingering through my latest copy of PC Gamer magazine, and i notice they have a release date of 24 September in mind. Hopefully a week earlier than the last ditch 1st October.

Also, i noticed it said, that CA were considering recently, so late to the official release, that they might do 6 month turn arounds in the campagin, rather then the usuall 1 year. Although they said this would mean adding new weather effects(snow on the campaign map), plus the fact that historicaly battles usally occured during the summer. A bit silly to be considering that so close to it's release dont you think ?

I swear I heard that currently the system was 2 or 4 seasons not one year. If u look at some of the pics there is snow on the campmap. Maybe they are considering changing it from summer/winter to 6 months?

It is 2 turns per year, summer and winter. And it certainly isn't going to change now

Good news on the 2 turns a year part, automatically doubles the potential length of the campagne

It's CA company policy not to comment on the release status of games - that's left for official Activision announcements, because of potential last-minute adjustments and so on. Hence I am "not commenting"

And the guys who posted in this thread have been where for the past 6 months???

The 2 turns per year/weather effects have been common knowledge for a LOOONG time.

What period does the campaign span in years?

I'm trying to get a feel for how many reigns a faction will have before winning the game, for PBM purposes.

In Shogun, with four turns per year and a smaller map, you tended to only have a couple of reigns so PBM was not really on. With MTW, you could have many kings, hence the many PBMs in the Throne Room.

Runs from 260BCE to 14CE - although you can play beyond - but no more events will happen. So... that's a maximum of 548 turns - give or take.

So in theory we can keep a Rome PBEM going for as long as there is someone else left to fight on the map.

Should keep things interesting.

Well, i was quite concerned when i read, and i quote...."What's even more remarkable is that Creative are still deliberating over this feature so late in in the game's development" PC GAmer magazine.

At least i can rest assured that you have decided now, for definate

When does fall (autumn) start in the UK?

Since we have an official release date of fall 2004, the earliest would be right after the equinox on Sep 22, 2004. Any sooner and CA won't be holding its promise

Seriously though, if release is late Sep/early Oct this would be a rare occasion of a software company shipping in the early part of the official ship range. When I first heard about "fall 2004" I automatically assumed "just before Christmas 2004". Kudos for CA for sticking to the earlier date.

I have it pre-ordered. Supposed to ship on 9/22/04 in the US. We'll see.

EDIT: You know, I usually could care less what my avatar looks like, but I just noticed mine in this part of the forum. GAWD! That is unflattering, even if I am Celt by ancestory. Were these assigned randomly, or did Gregoshi hand-pick this one?

According to the German game magazine GameStar the release date is set to 24th September US and the 29th September German version.

Just thought I would give my piece to the speculation...

I think that they will keep delaying the game until finally in February 2005 CA will go bust and Activision will never publish the game. :D

i've found that if you call your local gamestop (software retailer here in the states) and ask them when they'll have a software release, they are usually pretty accurate. just make sure you call fairly often to check for pushed back dates :)
